Check out the trailer for Bret Easton Ellis's "The Informers"

Ah, Bret Easton Ellis. How long has it been since we've been plopped into your morally bankrupt world of Hollywood's models, druggies, celebutantes, trust fund kids, serial killers, self-loathing bisexuals and fading stars? I mean, those of us who don't watch VH1's dating shows, that is.

Everyone's favorite nihilistic bisexual author (American Psycho, Less Than Zero) is back with a movie adaptation of The Informers, a collection of short stories set within a sprawling group of terrifyingly empty individuals in the Los Angeles of the '80s. I read the book back in the '90s and I remember liking it but honestly can't recall too much about it beyond a few biting lines of dialogue and a creepy scene involving a wannabe vampire ... but the author's overarching themes of excess and abandon were in full effect.

Now an Aussie filmmaker has brought the stories to life (thanks in part to Ellis himself, who co-wrote the script), and it looks like the book's gay and bisexual elements remain intact (much as they did in the last film adapted from and Ellis book, Rules of Attraction).

The question is, will a 2009 audience be lured back into the cokedens and mansions that made Less Than Zero a hit way back in 1987? Especially when the cast of Informers (which includes Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Winona Ryder and Chris Isaak) would have gotten better play two decades ago?

Check out the (slightly NSFW) trailer after the jump, and tell us what you think! (t/y to Liam for the tip!)
