Check out the trailer for Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock"

The official trailer for Focus Features' upcoming comedy-drama Taking Woodstock (which stars Comedy Central's Demitri Martin as gay Woodstock host Elliot Tiber) is out, and it looks to be a blast. Look for Watchmen hottie Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Spring Awakening hottie Jonathan Groff in the mix, not to mention Liev Schreiber as a cross-dresser.

And if you haven't read it already, check out our exclusive interview with Martin, in which he discussed his big gay breakout role for the first time.

I just read the book

And I simply cannot wait to see this movie!  I know it's not going to hold perfectly true to the book.  I can't expect that.  But it's just such a great story that this movie is going to be wonderful.

i really don't think...

i really don't think the 'gay connection' is really relevant to the movie.

in the book, from what i understand, it's more autobiographical...but the movie seems to MAINLY be about the making of Woodstock and not so much about the man (and his life) behind it. i mean, yes, he is part of it...but his sexuality is not central to the main storyline.

make sense??

Testing the waters about star power

The movie trailer looks good. However, the big thing for me is that I think this is a test of how big a star one needs to make a movie with a lead gay character win at the box office. Afterall, even Milk has scored 50 mil in domestic and foreign box office, and I got to think Penn helped that a lot. In other words, do you need a Sean Penn or a Heath Ledger or can you make a movie with a solid cast of great actors who are nevertheless not on the A-list? I hope the answer is yes because that will be a true indicator that we have arrived as a box office force just like it was the same for other groups. We will find out.
