Cher and Xtina to star in biggest drag queen movie ever that has nothing to do with drag queens
It has been announced that Cher (you may have heard of her?) will be returning to movie screens for the first time in a decade and in he first on-screen singing role ever in the upcoming musical Burlesque, which co-stars Christina Aguilera as a promising pasty-twirler who is taken under the wing of Cher's wizened-but-lovable theater owner. A story about a small-town Iowa girl who heads to the big city and becomes a huge star selling her body? I can identify! (Crickets) This actually kind of sounds like a modern-day Gypsy, only without all the creepy mommy issues (or with completely new creepy mommy issues) as seen through the lens of Baz Luhrmann and sponsored by the remaining Pussycat Dolls. Let's hope that Cher can at least bring some class to what otherwise could very well wind up looking like a castoff number from the Spike Awards. Submitted by on Tue, 2009-06-23 10:03. |

What about?
I smell something campy around here...
They should just title it Showgirls 2 and it would have just as much credibility. I'm more excited for the Alice In Wonderland movie being made by Tim Burton. Where's the blog post about that!?!?!

Baz Luhrman? Then call it "Australia II"
That should have 'em lined up around the block.
As for the participation of The Pussycan Dolls, does this mean the man Cher and Christina will be fighting over will be (wait for it) Steve Antin?
Hmm...
I adore Christina, I really do. But the only time I've seen her attempting to act (outside of music videos) was when she hosted SNL. Her Samatha Jones impersonation was awesome, but everything else... not so much. Her turn as a rebelious Victorian girl actually made me cringe.
But, still, it's Christina! And Cher! And musical numbers!
If Christina's improved her acting at all in the years since SNL, this has the potential to be a really fantastic film. Very exciting. 8)
Yeah, but
how much acting is necessary with all that wardrobe, make up, and pre-recorded vocal track?
Regardless, I do love Christina and I'm glad to see her back. And watching Mask again made me remember how much I love Cher when she acting (cue slap, "Snap out of it!")
I'm Excited For This Movie
Cher is an incredible talent (and has been sorely missed) and so is Christina. Besides her voice she was surprisingly fantastic in her hosting of SNL, so girls got some acting chops to hold her own against Amy Pohler, Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dracht (?). The soundtrack will be crazy and the movie might be a little camp, (I am willing to admit this) but Showgirls 2? Come on now.
About the original Showgirls, when the movie first came out I saw it with a female friend who got really 'excited' by the whole Nomi licking the pole shot. 10 years later we were watching it again and the same friend said, "I hope they cleaned that pole." To me it's funny how perspectives/reactions can change with age.
This makes me nervous
