Christian group: Gay couples use children "as trophies"
The debate over gays adopting isn't just raging here in the States. Down in sunny Australia (happy Mardi Gras!) the government is making Parliamentary Inquiries as to whether current law (which allows gays to adopt but does not recognize their partners as the child's other parent) are discriminatory. Cue the local conservative Christian group (the ACL), who had this to say about the issue: "Research shows that the most stable relationship is a married heterosexual relationship and that's where there is the least promiscuity" ... ""Not content with having discrimination removed, (they) are now pursuing symbolic gains and holding up children as trophies for their own agenda." Now, we know this isn't true because we're still basking in the afterglow of the gayest trophy-awarding ceremony in Hollywood history, and no infants were handed out at the podium. Correct title: FUNDIES use children as "trophies".
I'm afraid what's really going on here is a tie-in with the fundamentalist "quiverfull" movement, a very disturbing marketing of conception that plays on the hopes and fears of fears of people about their ability to care for children in a very slick and powerful way. Unfortunately it's radicalized everything dealing with children in the eyes of some Fundies.

The manipulation is vile and disgusting, but objectively it's a work of genius. It plays so deeply with hope, fear, and guilt that many people want to believe it and most of the ones who fall for it can't give it up.
They even drag the to Congress
In a way it's funny (but sick and ironic) because often these are the same people who argue that they don't want their children "exposed" to the concept of homosexuality, even as they drag those children to protest marches and make them wave anti-gay signs around. They do the same with abortion, which I would love to know how they explain to the single-digit age kids that they drag to these things.
However, I don't know how seriously Quiverfull will be taken seriously by the masses. Open-ended procreation and huge families are falling out of favor. Even my cousins of my own generation from our huge Catholic family do not share the "take as many as God sends" attitude towards procreation and would rather have fewer children that they can care for fully than as many as possible. Heck, even a Mormon friend of mine has drawn the line at two, which is technically not endorsed by his church.
We should counter the argument here with as many photo clips as we can of conservative parents dragging their children to protest marches, Congressional hearings, etc.... Expose the hypocrisy for what it is. They use their kids as trophies at least as much, if not more so, than we ever have.

Children Protective Services is now saying they're evaluating whether or no Psycho Baby Mama has the wherewithall to take care of her eight new unfrozen offspring in addition to the six she already has. If they give her a thumbs down the little darlings may well be handed out to foster families --
like trophies.

better trophies than corporate growth
I have no illusions as to why the sexual morality being pushed by the likes of the Pope target infertile practices. Birth control, abortion and homosexuality limit their corporate growth as Western birthrates decline and Europe's population becomes more Muslim. But not one word about adoption. Oh, poor Church- torn between preaching marriage=breeding like rabbits and how gays shouldn't be parents.. Where will all those unaborted babies go?
