Darren finds his star in Gordon-Levitt

Gay Sex and the City writer/producer Darren Star has lined up a romantic lead for his feature directorial debut, The Frog King -- and it's exceedingly gay-friendly young actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

You may remember Levitt from his turn in Gregg Araki's haunting Mysterious Skin, but the brooding young star has been taking challenging roles (in films like Brick, Latter Days, Havoc, and Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce's upcoming Stop Loss) ever since his sitcom Third Rock from the Sun wrapped in 2001.

The Hollywood Reporter says that in the film "Gordon-Levitt plays a ne'er-do-well assistant editor whose penchant for messing up threatens a relationship with his dream girlfriend." Sounds exactly like my life -- except for the girlfriend part. Well, that and the part about being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

What's even more interesting is that the script for The Frog King comes from novelist Bret Easton Ellis, generally known for tales of drug-addicted hustler teens and homicidal yuppies. While Ellis has said in the past that he "doesn't identify as gay", there is a seriously strong queer undercurrent and many gay characters in his work, so we may see some gay supporting characters here.
