Lance Black scores WGA top film prize for "Milk"

Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black took home both the top film prize for Best Original Screenplay and the Paul Selvin special award for highlighting civil rights issues. The first-time screenwriter gave two emotional acceptance speeches (to a standing ovation from the crowd) that highlighted Harvey Milk's legacy and the need to change perceptions about gay and lesbian civil rights in this country, noting, ""We need to dream bigger than Proposition 8 ... I’m a child of Harvey Milk, and I’m a child of the movies. Those two things can inspire a guy to dream big."

The West Coast portion of the ceremony was hosted by none other than out actor Neil Patrick Harris. Slumdog Millionaire, which took the top film prize for Adapted Screenplay, went on to sweep the BAFTAs, winning seven awards (Milk, which had four nominations, walked away empty-handed).

All this, AND he looks great shirtless in a cowboy hat? I think it's safe to say Black is off to a good start for the week. Full list of awards over yonder.
