Exclusive "Greek" clips! First look at Grant, Calvin's new ... er ... roommate?

We're big fans of Greek and its groundbreaking gay fraternity brother character, Calvin Owens (Paul James). But while the show has been in fine form over the past few weeks, Calvin's storyline (particularly when it comes to his stalled romantic life) has been back-burnered. Luckily last week things got considerably more interesting when Calvin's frat brother Evan pulled him into a big secret he's keeping, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for Calvin's story this season.

We're excited to have two exclusive clips from an episode airing next month featuring Calvin and his new gay roommate, Grant (played by Dante's Cove's Gregory Michael). They're a wee bit spoilery, so proceed with caution!

In the first clip, Calvin gives some gay relationship advice to Rebecca, who has apparently sipped from the cup of Sappho (?!). And in the second, Calvin  — whose sex-crazed roommate has forced him to move out — has an awkward (and shirtless!) encounter with his new roomie.

Enjoy the clips below, and be sure to tune into tonight's episode to find out what's going on with Evan and how Calvin will figure into it.

Yeah...

Still not one hundred percent convinced Gregory Michael can pull off the college kid look.  I will give him that they've got a pretty good diguise going on, but still...

College "Kid"

I wasn't aware that there was an upper age limit for college - what about the people left behind a few grades or ones returning from the military?

Sure..... But those older

Sure..... But those older students are typically not joining a fraternity and living in a frat house.

hmm...

i'm sort of interested how they will handle rebecca's situation. (i swear to god, if it turns out to be a stupid phase.....)  - - - i gotta wonder why they had her questioning if she was a lesbian all of a sudden. i understand confusion, experimenting, blah blah...and in this day and age, people are more open minded, etc....and yes, i know some people don't realize their sexuality til they're in their 20's or even later than that (i am assuming she is in her 20's)

ok, all that said....she could be bisexual. i'm surprised calvin didn't even mention that to her. now, i am pretty certain they will touch upon that subject, but they didn't in that clip, and thats where my response comes in. buuuttt....maybe they'll go all hollyoaks and make this sort of like john paul/craig where rebecca just happens to be attracted to one girl.

2nd clip was amusing....the line "didn't want you think i was gonna be forcing my gayness on you" was a wtf and amusing line all at the same time for me.

interesting

Two things:

1. his name is Calvin Owens, not Harris

2. both clips made me laugh out loud, but as someone who went greek in college i don't know if i like the whole dating within the fraternity (or sorority in Rebecca's case) thing... it might just be a personal thing since i really can't look at my brothers in a sexual way because i honestly think of them as my brothers and well i just don't get into that. and on a more serious note one of the more weirder worries some "unaware" chapters have had is that brothers may date eachother and then what happens when they break up, not saying i have this worry but it does cross some minds so i hope this doesn't convey the wrong messages and such.

Fair to homophobes

I love Greek more than its cutesy storylines probably deserve, but these two clips only confirmed why I find the characters so endearing and the writing clever.

I also like how the homophobic characters, specifically Dale and Evan, are treated like regular human beings.  Just like there are a wide array of gay people, there are a wide array of homophobes.  Not all of them are of the Rev. Phelps and Maggie Gallagher variety of knuckle draggers.  Some of them are just uncomfortable with something they do not understand.  They just lead a little exposure to gay people to realize they are not that bad.

Hahaha, that scene with

Hahaha, that scene with Grant was hilarious!! And I'm glad that images of Dante's Cove weren't stuck in my head the whole time...though that might be interesting. The clip with Rebecca was really cute.

I've Never Seen Evan Exhibit Homophobia

I've never seen any evidence that Evan was homophobic.

He's always been totally supportive and non-gay-panic with Calvin from the second he pledged him and became his big brother.

I think Evan was just uncomfortable because he walked into a situation where Calvin and Grant were behaving like they were very, very  guilty about something and they were half-naked and standing very close to each other.

It's ironic since Calvin needed a new roommate because his old roommate was having too much sex in the room.

Given that Evan has actually dragged Calvin from his bed with Heath still in it (in his underwear) without so much as an blink, I don't think Evan was reacting homophobically.

He was more like, "Um, okay weirdos I don't know why you're acting like stammering freaks but  I was just checking on you..."

At least that was my take on the situation.

I've never found Even to be homophobic at all.

Greek I don't get ABC Family but

The show has the look of a longer less interrupted episode of UNDRESSED. A show which while cute, wasn't very challenging in it's casting choices. Certainly Gregory Michael is high-end eye candy but he's no Laurence Olivier or even a Kevin Costner wannabe.

I don't subscribe the theory that just because it has gay content it offers good LGBT visibility.  I certainly hope that the full efpisodes are less amateurish stories meant to titillate teenage hormones on both sides of the aisle.

That's all I am saying...

College and Ages

People in the Greek system (at least, the people who are involved heavily in their houses), are almost (note the qualifier!) exclusively in that late teen/ early 20s age group. Generally, the only frats that go after the non-traditional students with any energy are the new ones or small ones trying to get their numbers up.

Anyone 25 or older who actually lives in the house or is heavily involved in regular activities is almost unheard of, at least at the college where I went.
