"Fidelity": Regina Spektor and Courage Campaign put faces on the impact of Prop 8

This week the non-profit Courage Campaign released a video that makes a case for invalidating Proposition 8 that no thinking, feeling human being with a working soul and an understanding of love can argue.

The Campaign asked gay couples who were married legally before Prop 8's passage to send in a photo of themselves with these simple words: "Don't Divorce Us". The response was overwhelming, and at the suggestion of a supporter, the Campaign reached out to anti-folk goddess Regina Spektor to ask if they could use her song "Fidelity" in the campaign, to which "she enthusiastically agreed." Spektor and EMI granted their permission and the result is the moving portrait that you see above.

It's enough to break your hear-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-araarararart.

As a side note, if you're not familiar with Spektor's music, you are seriously missing out. And with her support of gay civil rights and her participation in the True Colors Tour this past summer, she's an artist who deserves our support right back.

I've included the gorgeous, haunting video for my favorite Spektor song, "Samson," below.
