First still from "I Love You Phillip Morris"?

When we saw the billboard ads for the upcoming Jim Carrey/Ewan McGregor comedy I Love You Phillip Morris that popped up during the Cannes Film Festival, our interest was piqued in the film, which tells the true tale of a married conman who fell in love with his prison buddy and managed to pull off several outlandish escapes.

Yesterday the above pic, which is being touted as the first official still from the movie, hit the web.

Interesting, to say the least, and it certainly doesn't look like they're trying to bury the gay element. Thoughts?

I`m very worried

that this one would turn out to be,well, just another Chuck & Larry.Or even worse.

Whatever

As long as it's not overly offensive, whether outright or in stereotypes, I am totally down for watching Ewan McGregor coppin off blokes... he is SOOOOooooo beautiful!

On what?

On what do you base this "worry"?

From earlier leaked

From earlier leaked pictures,it seems there might be a chance that they gonna play on some of the stereotypes.

If I remember correctly,Jim Carrey`s history on gay presenting in his work wasn`t that impressive,Ewan McGregor is much better. But let face it,even the usually gay-friendly actors may misstep sometimes(Latest X Files Movie anyone?)

Also as somebody else mentioned below, previous work of Director/Writer is pretty mixed.

I hope it turns out to be impressive in the right way,but I`m not exactly holding my breath.

Then again...

I love me a racy prison drama... Beecher/Keller from HBO's Oz, anyone? But that was a very real (or at least close) depiction of what a prison "love" would be like. A comedy, on the other hand, is quite likely to eff up the sweet-and-sour nature of prison love as depicted by Beecher/Keller. Hopefully McGregor pulls it off... I expect nothing good from Jim Carrey *rolls eyes*

I'm of two minds

On the one hand, I applaud them from not shying away from clearly indicating what the film is about.

On the other hand, it's also clear that it seems to be slightly exploitative, as a joke, but maybe that's just my perception due to the presence of Jim Carrey (an actor I've never particularly cared for).

It's the first directing job for Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, whose previous writing credits are mixed: the great Bad Santa and the horrible remake of The Bad News Bears. Which indicates that it will probably be humor of a very coarse nature.

By the way, speaking of questionable gay-themed film projects, I don't know if you saw in the community forum that the trailer for Bollywood's Dostana is available:

At the very least, plenty of nice eye candy for John Abraham's fans!
