Brand new pics of Van Hansis Off-Broadway in Die Mommie Die!

Here's a special Friday treat for all the Van Hansis fans out there: We just got the first pics of the blonder half of everyone's favorite gay-teen-playing As the World Turns acting duo in his Off-Broadway debut in Charles Busch's hilarious Die Mommie Die!

Currently in previews, the show opens Sunday October 21st and runs through February (which must be exhausting for Van -- probably not a bad thing that he's doing his scenes from in or beneath a hospital bed these days!), and you can get tickets and keep tabs on the show over here. For those who haven't seen the play or the 2003 film version, it's kind of a retro Hollywood version of The Oresteia, with two children seeking to avenge their father after their fame-hungry mother poisons him with a suppository. (Yes, you read that right.) Van plays Lance, the gay son who was kicked out of boarding school for ... well, you can probably imagine.

More great pics of Van, Charles, and the rest of the cast after the jump!

so...

so, i am pretty ignorant about broadway, which leads me to ask...what does off-broadway mean exactly? :-P
Mikey G.'s picture

Off-Broadway..

...means a play or musical that is playing in a venue other than Broadway. :P

Though it usually has to do with the seating room. Broadway being the huge venues on Broadway, Off-Broadway being the smaller (<500) theaters, and then Off-Off-Broadway being the productions held in broom closets.

Go see this play!

I saw Die Mommie Die last night and it was so funny.   Van was superb as Lance Sussman.

Wow ...

... and I thought certified Gay Icon Charles Busch was the star of this show.

I've seen this movie a few

I've seen this movie a few times on Logo, and boy it's hillarious.

Does he do any singing in it.

Reminds me of Randy Harrison. I "obtained" a copy of him in "Wicked" and I LOVED it. lol

I really wish I lived in New York.

Broadway Beat

Great interview with Van and the rest of the cast on this week's Broadway Beat.  They also show two scenes from the play.

Very funny

Those were great clips and interview segments.  It would be a treat to see that on-stage, particularly since Van is in it...  I'm going to have to rent the film, now---looks like a lot of fun.

Nice to see

he is getting other work outside of the steady but staid actors' purgatory known as soap operas, nothing like the stage to show an actor's true talents!

Cheers

Are you aware...

how important Charles Busch is and how prestigious it is for Van to be doing this revival.  This is not just some drag queen comedy.  Mr. Busch was nominated for a Tony for his heterosexually cast play, THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE.  Aside from DIE MOMMIE DIE, he has done several other films both in and out of drag and is directing his first film.  He is no Chi Chi Larue.
