First "Torchwood: Children of Earth" details emerge DigitalSpy snagged producer Peter Bennett and squeezed him until some details about Torchwood Season 3 popped out, as well as a little damage control about rumors that John Barrowman will be packing up his Tardis and going home after this run. Perhaps of more immediate interest to us, Torchwood Magazine sat down with series director Euros Lyn (who directed all five eps of the arc) and confirmed that the relationship between Jack (Barrowman) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) won't be cut due to the shortened season or backburnered because of the show's move to a higher-profile timeslot and channel:
"Also, the love story between Captain Jack and Ianto continues to unfold, as does the story of married life for Gwen and Rhys"
Speaking of Gareth David-Lloyd, the local fave also spoke with BBC reporters recently about the new season, revealing that as a full-fledged member of the TW team this go-round he gets to do a lot more running and jumping. Action Ianto! My favorite kind. We know we've got some serious Torchwoodies and Barrowmaniacs here, as evidenced by the rankings in this year's Visibility Awards. How do folks feel about the news? Update: It looks like these and more links are being posted over in the Torchwood forums. Do check them out and thanks to Crabby Lioness for the info! Submitted by on Fri, 2008-12-19 08:48. |

Great!
Hoping for more Janto
Hopefully this will be as described.
The Gwen thing is kind of weird, especially since she's supposed to be the "everywoman" voice of the audience. But so far they've written her as an amazing bitch. In Series One she cheats on Rhys, having an affair with Owen (and apparently a very hot one). She then confesses to Rhys, but only after preemptively dosing him with Retcon in the hopes of getting him to forgive and forget (literally). She has a blatant thing for Jack that even Rhys can sense. Then there was the episode where she was blasting her ex, PC Andy, for not attending her wedding (so that she could rub the fact that she was marrying someone else in his face).
Then I was reading this list where someone checked off all the times when somebody either died or was put in great danger because of the way Gwen tends to willfully disobey Jack (or common sense) and do whatever she pleases. She's the least qualified member of the team, yet she generally shows little inclination to take advice from anyone smarter or more experienced than her. Rather like George W Bush.
Honestly, she's not the most sympathetic character.
Janto has been the fan favorite 'ship anyway, so it would be good for them to focus more on it. Plus of course the gay viewers just adore it. Apparently theIanto/Jack flashback in the episode Fragments was deliberately written like a romantic comedy. I think Jack and Ianto play that kind of thing well, and it could be used as a nice contrast to the more serious issues of Gwen and Rhy's marriage (her being a bitchy slag, him being an adorable victim who needs a divorce followed by a civil partnership with PC Andy).
Can't wait for the mini-series.
Get rid of Gwen -- bring
I really wanted Martha
But sadly, Freema has other gigs. Martha had great chemistry with both Jack and Ianto. They would have made a much better world-saving trio than what we have with Gwen.
Tosh was also a much better and sadly under-used character. Her combination of brilliance, determination and insecurity was very compelling.
I agree about Martha -- she
That's because Martha
What really irks me about
What really irks me about Gwen is that she feels rather than think. Sometimes she lacks common sense. Remember that moment when she asked the team who was the last person you snogged? Or even the way she handled herself in "Adrift" when both Jack and Owen were being quite reasonable with her in the boardroom. Jack even asked her how Torchwood could help the families. He gave her the opportunity to present a plan; she didn't deliver. She seems like a very stereotypical female to me.
You hit the nail on the head...
Thank you! I've been trying to put my finger on exactly what it is about Gwen that's really irking me, but couldn't quite do it. Yes, she's all about feeling rather than common sense.
Don't get me wrong, feeling or gut instinct is something that should be paid attention to and weighed carefully, but you just have to mix in a healthy dose of common sense, too. Otherwise, you come off as some kind of annoying, stereotypical git, which is exactly how I see her.
Which leaves me wondering if the writers have a reason for creating her character to be such a stereotypical git... and if so, what is it?

Re: Get rid of Gween -- bring
I would bring back Tosh. She was my fav after Jack of course. I like the fact that she was sooo smart. Must be a Josie and a Pussycat thing; remember one girl wws very smart?
I wouldn't get rid of Gwen thought. Just me.
You are welcome for the links.
Thanks
No problem. :)
Photo makes me nervous
That photograph makes me nervous if its from season 3.
Is it from season 3 ?
That movie camera brings back memories of those circus freaks "From Out of the Rain"
Agree with Knickie, Tosh is needed back more than keeping Gwen.
That photo is from season 2
Thanks
Haven't been to the forums yet...
I'm heading over there in a minute. But just in case this question isn't answered there... Does anyone know when we'll get Season 3 in the States? I seriously need a Janto fix!

BBCAmerica will carry Torchwood S3.
Let's Not Hate Gwen!!!
We all can like and dislike which character we want. But you have to admit the episode where the guy was dead and Gwen was tracing his steps was a great episode and showed Gwen's caring side didn't it?
And the show for her wedding, where we met Mr. Banana. BRING HIM BACK. LOL.
So weird that Gwen had an affair with Owen and Tosh didn't have an affair with Owen. Didn't like that story line. And don't you think Jack would have helped Tosh move on instead of being stuck head over heels for Owen? And when Tosh was with that woman - I looked at her character differently. I saw how lonely she was. And last but not least, when Tosh was with that guy who would wake up once a year. One of my favorite episodes. I do miss that Tosh character. :(
