    Hating Sally Kern

You know, I applaud her, not for anything she's said, but for the fact that she's said it. You also have to keep in mind that her intended audience was not the world at large, but now is, because of retorts on CBS as shown on CBS News on Logo, she stands by her statements. Seriously, I defend her right to speak freely and calling it hate speech is an accurate label. Here's what I'm tired of, people who pretend to like us, but really don't. Kudos for her honesty and sticking to her guns. More of these people need to come out of the closet and speak their minds in the public eye so that our nation can be more aware that these people live here with us. It's not enough to publicize and show that some people are murdered for the mere fact that they were gay, it just doesn't happen often enough, nor is it publicized enough to show America that it's a real problem. Hate should however not be legislated. Whether you’re speaking it or thinking it, it's natural for some of us to hate other people. Its how we act that determines if it's a crime and it should only be viewed for the crime that was committed, legally. From there we can talk about the hate, keep talking, keep refuting the obvious stupid mindsets of our Sallys in the world. What ever happened to Dr. Laura anyway?

I am finding it hard to feel sorry for her. Death threats via e-mail? She shouldn’t be expecting anything less. Her hate spreads (as it already exists) through the minds of the ignorant and more often religiously biased wackos. Here’s the hard truth. She’s a normal person in American. So should we be hating her? We should definitely be refuting her and others out there who have the same mindset, but truthfully, you can’t do it from here. Your target audience is not the intended, you can include it here, but it’s like reminding yourself of something, it’s not wide spread at all. People like Sally, speaking out with hate will bring more awareness to the general population. Consider Ellen talking about it on her show. We need more Sallys to come out so that the rest of the nation understands that we are hated in America.

Is Kern the female equivalent of Phelps?

I have read all about the very sick/disturbing/disgusting/appalling (insert your own word here) "Pastor" Fred Phelps and his 70+ "congregation" of the WBC in Kansas. I then made my way over to YouTube to watch many of the sickening video clips. All I can say is that it's amazing that I didn't follow through on my VERY STRONG URGE to smash my computer into a million different pieces.

Suddenly, I realized that Phelps (and all the others in the WBC) and Kern are ACTUALLY doing the gay community a FAVOR by spreading all this hate. Why? It's simple really...just scroll through the comments on YouTube regarding any one of these appalling videos and you'll find that 99% of the comments are basically all the same. Not only gays, but most straights are even posting saying that he and the WBC are just sick sick sick. This causes many homophobes to reconsider their stance regrading homosexuality. Keep it up Phelps and Kern, you're only digging your graves deeper and deeper. You know the old saying..."Stupid is as stupid does". Peace :)

    Fred is Dead

So there already is a female Phelps, his daughter. She's been laughed at on national networks by reputable reporters letting her know that she does not represent Christianity to them.

    Listen Up

Japhy, I can’t believe you would hurt a fly let alone be a devil.

I have to address an issue that has plagued gay people. I often hear people say someone is in the closet when that person says something anti-gay. Let’s look at the data that got this meme into the public consciousness.

In 1996 a study was published on the sexual responses from self-reported straight men who claimed they either were homophobic or non-homophobic. The responses were noticeably different between the two groups. The non-homophobic group was aroused by straight and lesbian porn and only slightly by gay porn. The homophobic group was aroused by straight and lesbian porn in the same manner as the non-homophobic group but was more aroused than the non-homophobic group by gay porn. Here is a graph showing the results. Does this mean closeted gay men are actually the ones that say and do anti-gay things? NO! Gay men are NOT aroused by lesbian porn. The results for watching straight and lesbian porn would have been significantly lower if the participants in the homophobic group were gay. What explains the difference between homophobic and non-homophobic straight men when viewing gay porn? Anxiety. For some men anxiety causes arousal.

Gay people need to get away from this notion that everyone that says or does anti-gay things is gay. This response has caused two things to happen. First, it’s given straight people a pass on past and current oppression of gay people. Today came word that San Diegan businessmen are supporting a ban on gay couples marrying and Pennsylvania state senators approved a ban on marriage for gay couples to move forward. What do these two things have in common? Straight people are the ones determining what gay people can and can not do. This is why when you look at gay history it is so varied (in certain areas and times being gay is more accepted). Second, it continues the idea that straight people are pure and perfect and gay people are the vessels of everything bad.

BTW, I am not saying all straight people are anti-gay. There are some accepting straight people and I thank them for their support.

I'm so tired of the 'straights bad, gays good' mentality. Let's face it: there are good and bad people on both sides of this issue and as long as people keep focusing on the differences between us instead of our similarities, those differences are going to continue to get further and further apart.

God, I can't wait for the day when people are just plain old human beings.

    The Problem

I am acknowledging those that are anti-gay.  There are many that want gay people to believe that closeted gay people are the reason for their oppression because they don't want to deal with the issues.  People don't want to challenge the status quo which for gay people has ALWAYS been inequality.  I am sick to death of people that want to ignore history.  Millions upon millions of gay people have died never being able to live their lives.  I will never ignore them.  Their lives mean something.
