"Forbidden Love" video clip update: Nobody puts Olli in the corner

Today's Forbidden Love is, in all seriousness, one of the best episodes ever. Not only do we finally get to the long-awaited first fight for Christian, but we get plenty of drama between the fellas, a beautiful crazy-eye moment from Christian (above), and a great climactic ending.

When we last left Christian and Olli, Olli was giving Christian space the night before his big fight, which to him apparently means "having drinks and clubbing with some random guy from the gym." No matter that it was totally innocuous, because with Christian being all backed up on testosterone he of course takes it the wrong way, leading to a blowout of a fight.

No, it's not a gospel service, it's a boxing match.

This all leads to Christian not getting any sleep before his big fight with homophobe Axel, and Olli isn't even going to go support his boyfriend in the ring. But when Christian gets his ass handed to him in the first round, you can bet that true love will somehow save the day.

And that's for being so darn cute!

This was all a long time coming, and lucky for us the folks at Forbidden Love have done it all right. It's exciting, it's touching, it's shocking, it's funny, and above all it's as adorable as a boxing match has any right to be. Seriously, do German soaps have much bigger budgets than American ones? The camerawork and locations alone are leagues beyond anything in daytime Stateside. Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens next.

You can see today's clip after the break, and thanks to Nanna and the Gays of Daytime for the translations.

If you thought that was

If you thought that was impressive you should see the way AWZ does ice skating ( http://rtl-now.rtl.de/awz.php?container_id=12546&player=1&index=7 ) [the guy who skates doesn't skate in real life and uses a double, the woman who skates is a real figure skater]

Though to be fair it is the speciality of their soap.  While VL's speciality lies more in pretty people riding horses together and attending fancy parties while boxing is just something they do when they have an out there idea ;)

Didn't ATWT do an illegal boxing storyline once with Lucy and Dusty? I seem to have that in fond memory, thought hat might just be of shirtless and sweaty Dusty.

And that's for being so

And that's for being so darn cute!

I`m rolling on the floor right now, hahahahaha!!!so darn funny!!!!!!!!!

And the crazy-eye Christian is still VERY yummy.

Did you see how there were

Did you see how there were other characters (not involved in the Ollian storyline) attending the fight? This is what is so upsetting about nearly ALL of the ATWT storylines. You would never see Dr. Bob at a Noah boxing match; it would probably be just Luke and a couple of blow-up dolls in the stands.

Less segregation on VL

They've done a better job at keeping Christian and Olli present within the other character's storylines, rather than segregating them out as if they were somehow "contaminated" by their sexuality.  This does annoy some people, because it means that many times when we see Christian and/or Olli in a scene it has nothing to do with their relationship.  But the flip side of that is that they are not being treated like a freaky sideshow.

Gay Ghetto Mentality

That's how some gay people come to see being gay. That gay only means 24/7 that's all we see in a character's development. There is this new movie by Ang Lee about this gay guy who was apparently behind the start of Woodstock. I mentioned to a friend that a gay movie, the Ang Lee movie, was coming out. He said, and others agreed that it wasn't 'really' gay because it wasn't about being gay. I was dumstruck by how much this narrows the types of storylines we are suppose to consider to be about us. So, I am happy that they aren't segregating them.

Couldn't Agree More.

I know the phrase/saying Best.[BLANK].Ever is quite ubiquitous these days, but in soapland, this is quite an apt description for Thursday and Friday's VL episodes.

Bring 'em on and hopefully some U.S. soap head honchos are taking notes and learning a thing or two.

Couldn't Agree More II.

"It's exciting, it's touching, it's shocking, it's funny,..."

Yes, it was all of that!

I really loved the boxing episode and I also was impressed by the great production values.

Loved the moving camera, the slow motion and the sound. Especially when heard out of Christian's dazed perception while he was knocked down where only Oli's voice came through and then leading to the score which we already know from the campfire/cowboy/Brokeback-scene.

Script + acting + production values made the boxing episode a perfect one !

What a beautiful epi this

What a beautiful epi this one was and a very exiting ending to the boxing s/l Christian is finally out to the uuhhm wel to the world i guess you could say sins he was already out to his friend. I compare this to some1 famous comming out because those people really have to come out twice, once to there loved ones and then again to the press and that can not be a easy task.

This epi is not only the end of the boxing s/l but also the beginning of a new one that will certainly rock. This couple is withoud a doubt the most beatiful, heartfelt and realistic (with a toch of dramatic romance springled on top but so was titanic) showing of gaylove currently on the web.

Beautiful Ollian episode!!.

Wiccan...i so agree with you...this was such an awesome episode. From the true to life arguement they had together to Christian's realization that without Olli his dream of being a boxer means diddly squat!!

And what a cool touch I thought from the writers to have Christian knocked down in the ring, and you see Gregor and others shouting for him to 'get up!' but it is only Olli's voice he hears. And just hearing and seeing Olli made him have the strength to stand up from that convase and succeed.

And when they kissed at the end in the ring I thought it a very realistic reaction from the crowd, with some cheering while others looked stunned. But Olli and Christian looked so beautiful and happy in that moment standing with their declaration of love in front of the whole arena and the press.

This is the most heartfelt and realistic writing of a gay couple currently on TV or the web.

I'm waiting on pins and needles for today's subtitled episode. I've seen the screen caps and it looks excellent.

The fight was lame...

and beyond fake. But the episode had a really cute ending, how they forgot what happened at Auntie's just because they loved each other. I cant wait for the next episode.

this reminds me of earlier

When Christian was trying out for his college he had trouble, if I remember correctly, but Ollie's encouragement helped him make it. It's nice to see that same pattern repeated again. It would have been nice if Christian had simply been able to admit that he needed Ollie, but one can't expect young love to always be wise.

Budgeting!!

So...  This is how it works.  American Soaps are multi-camera tape shows (like Sitcoms) designed to air in the early afternoon.  In contrast, European soaps are evening shows and in many cases, are the country's main televised creative output.  Serialized nighttime soaps (like "In Treatment," which was adapted from an Israeli series), are the norm in almost every other country outside of the USA/Canada.

Consequently, not only are the budgets bigger, but the content is more sophisticated, and this is why shows like Hollyoaks and Verboten Liebe are a bit more sophisticated than what we see on the air here.

However, our primetime television content, with shows like Lost, Heroes, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc...  is head and shoulders above what's produced in other parts of the world.  Which is why so many American shows are licensed all over the globe.

this is such a lame episode!!

hehehe... i'm kidding... i would die for our two boys.... i really really love this show... i'm not much of a boxing fan but i thought they did good with the fight scene... granted that it was so sudden that Chrissie was able to knock out Dumdum.. but still the choreography was good for a soap opera... it was better than i expected it to be....

ever since November of 2007, VL has been able to outdo itself in every show that they showcase our two heroes.... culminating with this episode.... i'm afraid that i don't like much what August has in store for our two boys... but there's still together and going strong until September so that's something to look forward to... i'm just happy with how they ended the first chapter of the Love Story of Chirstian and Oliver... no matter what happens (which i don't think they would end so soon since i believe VL has full knowledge of how important the Ollian story arc is and how it made an impact for people around the world)... i would always have this beautiful, brilliant, heart warming, first chapter of the Ollian Love Story (from November 7, 2007 to August 1, 2008) that would go down as THE BEST GAY LOVE STORY EVER TOLD IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION.

I tend to look at Gregor

I tend to look at Gregor embracing Christian as the end of the first chapter because it was just so pitch perfect and came off the back of a bunch of well done emotional episode. Everything else is nice and all but really just a bonus.

That episode was beyond

That episode was beyond amazing. The scene where Olli crawls into Christian's bed and cuddles upto him is absolutely sweet. Seriously, Thore and Jo are just fantastic actors and have done tremendous justice to their parts.

And THE KISS!! It was just so damn sweet! Cant wait to see what happens next. I hope Axel gets his ass handed to him by Christian for attacking Olli like that, ugh. :(

Love in the Ring

This storyline continues to amaze me.  I don't think I've ever seen anything quite this romantic in any gay film or TV show, period.  It's so beautiful the way Christian's face lights up when Olli comes into the ring and the love that just explodes when they kiss.  Just . . . wow.

I too was surprised at the quality of the cinematography and lighting and the obvious care they took shooting this.  An American show would never have spent this kind of money.  It's obvious that the VL writers really believe in this storyline and in giving it equal weight with the others on the show.  Not to mention that Jo and Thore have developed a kind of emotional intimacy with each other onscreen that makes you forget they're acting.  This show is a thing of beauty that will be remembered for a long time.

Thanks Nanna for making this accessible to us.
