"Forbidden Love" video clip update: Will he or won't he?
German soap Forbidden Love (Verbotene Liebe) left us teetering on the edge of the gayest of cliffs on Friday when Christian stood up in front of his brother, potential boxing agent, the entire gym, and a few nameless fashion models to declare his gayness once and for all. Will he do it? Even Christian's sorta-secret boyfriend, Olli, doesn't think it's a good idea ... and this being a soap, things of course don't go as smoothly as planned. But there is an upside: Christian in boxer shorts! Hey, I wonder if boxers are required to wear boxer shorts, like in some unwritten rule of namesake undergarments? I guess that would mean that jockeys wear jockey shorts, too...
Where was I ... oh, yeah. Gay boxers, romance, and drama galore. Check it out after the break! Thanks, as ever, to Gays of Daytime and the fabulous Nanna for the clip and subtitles. Submitted by on Wed, 2008-05-14 10:25. |

I love the make-up kisses in this episode
So sweet; I wonder if Thore just threw that little kiss/bite in there just for fun?
Check out my blog: http://radicalsexy.blogspot.com/156164
i know!!!!
Kiss/bite..
Ha, Joseph, I think we all wonder! ;o))
I think, YES!

Not sure..
but who is the model referring to as 'good for one night only' Gregor?? he looked a little pissed off at that comment.
Those looks Christian gives.. man he could melt greenland with those eyes.
Gregor's wife
Yeah, the model is Gregor's wife Sarah who he is divorcing.
I think she cheated on him, and now she seems to have some kind of drug addiction and Gregor, of course, has a sex addiction. And apparently he used to be a male escort.
It's amazing what you can pick up from just watching the Ollian scenes.
I also like to watch the scenes first in German to see what I can pick up, and what I think they are saying, and then watch in English and see if I was close. (usually not that close.)
Yes, she talks about
Yes, she talks about Gregor.

The Gays Of Daytime
Actually, jockeys DO wear
Ugh! I thought this was the way it would go down...
From towel to boxershorts..
Did you notice that Christian was entering the room (where Olli was waiting) in a towel and seconds later he is wearing boxershorts. He must have changed in front of Olli and we didn't get to see anything!

I'm so pleased that Olli
I'm so pleased that Olli stepped in when he did and stopped Christian from making a very bad decision. It would have stopped his boxing career in it's tracks. And even if Gregor had become Christian's personal trainer and promotor, can you imagaine the homophobia Christian would have had to endure? No, Olli made the right decision for now. And once Christian had slept on things, he realized Olli was right.
I loved the argument between them, very passionate and realistic. And to see the beautiful Olli sitting on the bed with those sad begging eyes while he waited for Christian to come out of the bathroom, was so sweet. He love's Christian so much, bless his heart.
I really liked the fact that the writers didn't go the regular SOAP route and have Christian and Olli stay angry at each other for weeks on end, but instead made up the following day. Something quite rare in the land of SOAPS.
Markie...I agree with your every word on the Olli and Christian kisses not included in that best kiss poll. The fact that that SNL kiss got in and not Olli and Chrisitian is very disappointing.
It's the more realistic
It's the more realistic option but I can't help but feel that it would have been the more soapy option if Christian would try to make it as an out gay/bi boxer (and because this is a soap he would naturally succeed because soaps are all about fairy tales and not too rooted in reality)
I am so in LOVE
...with this SOAP!! It makes watching ATWT so painful, even when there is an occasional kiss every 9 months or so. This is how you create a great storyline, gay or not. Take a lesson American soaps!
The chemistry between Jo and Thore is simply unbelievable and I love how relaxed their body language is around each other. They really understand their characters and what motivates them to be in love and how that affects who they are together and apart. Christian's stiffness and uneasiness around Gregor and then his literal melting when he sees Ollie...it's to die for! And the looks that Ollie gives Christian when he's teasing him in public (or waiting for him in the bedroom) cannot express more clearly how in love he is with Christian.
Thanks to Nanna for the subtitles and...may I point out...VL now routinely gets more views than ATWT on YouTube. Karma anyone?
P.S. Shame on you AE for not including VL in the best kiss. You know that, at this point, they would've won because they...I don't know...actually freakin kiss and it's actually really hot and not just two people smashing their mouths together???? It makes me wonder about your absolute (and misplaced) loyalty to ATWT and whether or not that had anything to do with it. It's simply a travesty and your excuses are lame.
I don't think that the ATWT
Uh...
It's beyond comprehension how you can state that VL is preaching to the choir while ATWT is somehow reaching those who need to be enlightened. Enlightened how exactly and with what storyline? Are you talking about the one where Ameera, who needs to get a heaping dose of self-esteem pronto, is trying to come between Noah (who has clearly stated over and over and over and over again that he's gay) and Luke? Are you talking about a storyline that's presented Noah and Luke as insensitive, gullible, and stupid dimwits, with each alternating roles everyday they're on? Are you talking about the storyline that doesn't allow them to kiss for 9 months? Are you talking about the storyline that tells young gay people that their faces and lives are worth throwing in the trash to cater to bigots? Are you talking about the storyline that basically has characters who are gay in name only? Are you talking about the storyline that presents Luke and Noah as two ball-less eunuchs? Are you talking about the storyline that pretty much tells fans that we should be grateful for the sh*tty crumbs that we're being given?
Your (and others like you) complacency and you making excuses for this show, which long ago abandoned its promise to treat these two as they would any other young couple, is the reason that American television so pitifully lags behind those of our European counterparts. If we don't demand that they start showing gays as real, living, breathing, complex characters who love just as everyone else, with the same intimacy, we're going to get the same old sh*t that we're being shown on this show and we'll be told that it's a "breakthrough" when nothing could be farther from the truth. As long as you're willing to eat sh*t, they'll feed it to you. Simple as that!
That bite has just sealed it for me
Love Bites
The little playful nip was absolutely the most adorable, romantic thing I have seen Christian do to Olli yet!
It continues to blow my mind how realistic Thore and Jo are making this. Even when we have "good" gay kisses on high-quality U.S. shows like Brothers & Sisters they're usually closed-mouth, and almost a little formal. They're rarely casual and natural, as if the director and actors know that they're making a statement of some kind. Ollian's whole interaction, this bite, random ear stroking and innumerable other little, seemingly meaningless gestures give a sense of reality to their onscreen relationship. They don't just touch or kiss for dramatic effect, they do it just to insert some believability into the viewer's experience.
I think I've said this in the past, but we need to go all "A Clockwork Orange" on the folks at P&G and starp them to chairs, force their eyes wide open and force them to watch these clips while chanting that this is how Nuke is supposed to be.
LoTr1885...great point at
LoTr1885...great point at how at ease Jo and Thore's body language are when around each other. When you look at all those intimate scenes they have together, you don't sense any unease or hesitation. Now contrast that to the clips i've seen of Van and Jake when kissing and being close...they just don't have that natural look or feel to their relationship. And Jake and Van's kisses looked so staged.
A few weeks ago when AE they were going to have a best gay kiss contest, I just thought it was a given that Olli and Christian would be contenders. I didn't give it a second thought. So I was extremely suprised when they were omitted. And the chances are highly likely they would have won.
It would have been great for the show itself and this enchanting storyline of Olli and Christian to have gotten some well deserved publicity. Now don't get me wrong, i'm entirely grateful that AE have been gracious enough in allowing 'Forbidden Love' to be highlighted on the site. It would have been really great though to have had them entered in that 'best kiss' competition.
Exactly!

That really was my point exactly. And it's not just ATWT. Brothers & Sisters does it too. There's no show on network television, IMO, that shows any kind of "real" intimacy between gay couples, although Brothers & Sisters does come close. ATWT is not even in the ballpark.
I don't think we should treat shows who show gay characters with kid gloves. If you're going to have a couple kissing, gay/straight/bi/in love with turtles, then show it for crying out loud! Don't talk about how "progressive" you are when your actors are just smashing their lips together like 4th graders. I'm so sick of people saying "at least they're on...at least it's a step forward." It's not a step forward when we watch gay programs (movies, television, etc.) and don't expect the same level of quality and realness that we would from any other show. That's capitulation and it's the reason we're subjected to crap day in and day out. It’s one thing if it’s popcorn crap and it’s admittedly popcorn crap (Dante’s Cove anyone?) but it’s another thing entirely when you use the gay community to say “look at my show and see how open‑minded we are” to increase ratings and exposure but then deliver nothing in return to those fans who put your show back on the map to begin with.
And I’m not going to vote in a contest that was essentially rigged to begin with. As far as I'm concerned, VL has far surpassed ATWT in terms of fairness, inclusiveness, and quality.
I have yet to see a valid reason as to why Ollian were excluded from the Best Kiss contest. I don't think we need to be silent just so it seems like we're grateful. It’s awesome that AE spotlighted VL to begin with but, quite frankly, that’s their job. They're supposed to be informing us things that cater to the gay community and VL fits that bill and how!
Natural talent..
Too true! I think it's so hypocritical when a show lures viewers with a gay story and then censor or truncate it.
I too am amazed by Thore and Jo's natural acting! They are quite sensational if I may say. Also true, that for once they do not have the 'perfect body' thing going on, though they are sexy as hell!
I just loooove Thore's little smiles! *melt*

Lotr1985...I could not
Lotr1985...I could not agree with you more on what you wrote in respect to how the gay community are essentially being used to garner publicity and increased viewership of shows, especially regarding the Luke and Noah storyline. Even today there is a write up in 'The New York Times' on how Luke and Noah's storyline has helped increased the number of young viewers, which by the way has been greatly overstated. ATWT's viewership is still in the toliet. I think it got about a 100,000 viewer bump, if that, when the Nuke storyline was introduced, but has been steadly dropping since then. Only 200,000 viewers seperates ATWT dropping from third place to sixth. You would think the Luke and Noah story had increased viewership by millions, but it's just another part of the hype regarding a storyline which quite doesn't deserve all this attention since it's so poorly written, acted and I think an insult to the gay community with it's fear of showing intimacy between the two men. I mean, it took almost eight months and protests to have Luke and Noah finally give each other a few awkward quick lip-locks.
It's actually an embarrassment to call the Luke and Noah storyline 'groundbraking' when we now see what other countries have to offer regarding gay storylines. Heck, this is the United States Of America and we're in the year 2008, lets have a SOAPY gay storyline that reflects that.
And yes, yes, yes in complete agreement with you on the blatant omission of Ollian regarding the best 'gay kiss' contest. The truth is, if Olli and Christians kisses had been entered into the competition, it would only have highlighted how poor in quality the Luke and Noah kisses are. And quite frankly, Nuke wouldn't stand a chance up against Ollian in regards to true hot and heavy lip action.
I didn't vote either in the best kiss competition since I was too vexed over the Ollian snub.
I think they are actually
I think they are actually dating in real life....
(/end dream) hehe

At the very least, it's a great 'bromance'...
From the various pics of them on the Thore Schölermann fansite, they seem to be great friends outside of work too.
Watching them interact with each other always makes me smile. And every time Olli & Christian look into each other's eyes and kiss... oh wow! Be still my heart!
No special treatment for Christian and Olli
I must confess that I sometimes get a bit irritated when some people post comments like "This was lame. I want them to kiss" on YouTube. They don't seem to have grasped the fact that this isn't the "Chris and Olli make-out show".
But these comments got me observe more closely how other couples on VL are treated and I must say, there is absolutely no difference. Their kiss in this episode was the only one of any couple, they get no more or less screen-time and their romantic scenes show just as much.
The only difference is maybe that the writing is better and that there are some funny jokes (at least to my German sense of humor) in their dialogues which others seem to lack.
It's good that they are shown in normal situations like their work and their interaction with their friends, that they are quite free from any gay stereotypes and that there's more to their love than just sex (but I wouldn't exactly object to some hot action every now and then). It's all the little things when they're together that make them stand out among other gay TV couples.
I very much liked that they behaved in this episode like normal people would without all the soap-like drama. They had a fight for a good reason, they shortly yelled at each other, were able to see the other's POV, so they made up and found a solution to the problem. And all that in a single episode. That's amazing.
as far as the NewNowNext gay kiss poll...
I assumed that the reason the European kisses were left off the poll was because that the audience of the NewNowNext polls are mostly American, and not necessarily AfterElton readers. I think it wouldn't necessarily look proper for the NNN nominations to include tv shows that can only be viewed in unofficial internet clips. (However, I think it's completely okay for AfterElton.com to do that, because it's a website about pop culture and the internet is part of pop culture.)
As for blind loyalty to ATWT, I haven't seen that from the staff here. They still recap the show, but that's because ATWT remains relevant to the topic of the website, whether or not the writing on the show is good. It's still a part of gay pop culture.
As for Christian and Ollie, they are an adorable couple, although I sometimes think Christian gets angry too easily. There are times when I wonder at Ollie's patience. In this case, Christian was probably justified though. It's good to see them being able to work things out. Even on soaps it's nice to occasionally see some emotional maturity.
You're right, Christian
is getting angry very easily and then raises his voice in this unique way, which I like :-)
But that is his character. He has a strict sense what's wrong and what's right for him and he doesn't think too long before he reacts. But that's the way he is and he is not taking advantage of Oliver patience, because he was the same way with Nico (his first girlfriend, who was also hot tempered like him) and with Coco (who was more balanced like Oliver is). And he also deals with Gregor the same way (who is dominant and hot tempered). So Oliver knew with whom he got involved. And I can imagine that this trait of Christian surely will lead to further problems in the future.
