GLAAD calls for apology from "Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show" for encouraging the beating of transgender or questioning children
Ugh. Just when you think we've rounded a corner, something disgusting like this crops up. The Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show (a morning show apparently heard in Sacramento and Reno) recently spent almost 30 minutes discussing a transgender child in Ohio ... or, more specifically, how any parent worth his or her salt should handle a transgender or questioning child. Here are Rob and Arnie's pearls of parenting wisdom:
If you want to listen to the whole clip, you can hear it below (the discussion begins around 4:48)
UPDATE: Hmm... looks like the show has yanked the original audio file, leaving a tiny clip without the offending discussion in its place. Can't imagine why! Submitted by on Tue, 2009-06-02 15:10. |

thankyou
No
Everyone has the right to
Everyone has the right to an opinion. They don't have the right to incite violence against children, no matter how 'different' they might be.
And don't call me "my friend", you terrible, terrible person.
So, these individuals actually raise money for
As good as bigots get
apologyclarification for his comments.Deflecting blame, while on the air yesterday they said that everyone knew they were joking.
Also from the Bee, station director Jim Fox praised the program. "The show is filled with hyperbole and they use exaggerations to make a point," Jim Fox said.. And their point is bigotry and hate. It is shameful to believe that Gays in the area actually support this kind of show and the opression of the TLGB communtiy, as one comment troll here suggests. Shameful and sadder still, if true.
You are all idiots!
yeah, you're right.....
i feel like looking for a dog today and hitting it with my car or smacking a crying child in a restaurant

If you go there, and click on the word "segment" in the 1st paragraph, it will open up the clip (most of it at least) I just listeneed to it and for once I have to say I actually am glad Dawn was there to defend.
Let's just get rid of our First Amendment!!
Let's get rid of free speech, because apparently our first amendment only applies when we can all agree. Let's make it illegal to have opinions that might hurt other peoples feelings. Guess what someone is ALWAYS going to be hurt when others vioce their opinions on sensitive issues such as this one. Lets teach people to not love themselves enough the way they are, until EVERYONE supports us , we all need validation from others in order to love ourselves, and if they disagree with the way we are we shouldn't have the confidence and self-esteem to shake our heads at them and go about our own lives. In case you didn't catch on ...that was sarcasm.
Iv'e listened to Rob Arnie and Dawn for 12 years, let me tell you what I know of them: Rob's dad, yes his biological father IS GAY, and he has a great relationship with him, he DOES NOT hate gay people. He also gives to many charities(he never said this because he's to moderst to ever boost about this, but Dawn has divulged this fact on the air) They do a segement called "Dr. Rob" where listeners can write or call the show and he helps them with issues such as finanicial help to more serious topics such as rape, coming out for the first time to one's family, and whatever else people need help with. I can think of a few times when listeners have called in to the show just asking for finanical advice, and as a result Rob has donated money to these people in need. They also do a 29-hour Rob-Arnie-and-Dawn-a-thon, where they stay on the air for 29 straight hours in order to raise money for the UC Davis Children's Hospital, and they have raised millions, yes millions, for the children. They raise money to support our troops. Dawn is a sweetheart, really she has the biggest heart of anyone I "know". And than there's Arnie... he's a fat funny kid, and makes so many people laugh, I know he can be shocking and hard to listen to, (there's that little free speech thingy again)
So yes you are all right these are obviolusly horrible people, heartless people who should not have their opinons, as none of us should.
What has gay
got to do with being trans?
Transphobia is the issue, And frankly if you cant cope with the repercussions of free speech then maybe they should think more carefully about what they say next time.
With freedom comes responsibility.
If GLAAD Gay & Lesbian
Have you been paying attention at all?
In so many parts of the US, gay people can lose their jobs or their housing or their good health through beatings or even their lives. Just for being gay. Rob and Arnie are protected by far more laws than gay people. Obviously, if ether of them are married, they can forget that. But they can be sacked from their jobs and thrown out of their housing if they're gay. An obviously, neither of them can join the military. Oh and then they can expect to put up with a lifetime of people calling them second-class citizens, tacitly agreeing to any violence being done to them and being told explictly that no matter what good works they do in their lives they're damned to eternal damnation.
Bloody hell arafg, people in this forum are not only dreaming of the day they have the same rights as Arnie and Rob, they are fighting to achieve them. The activists face fines and jail terms when they protest, others are spending their hard-earned money to support any candidate or organisation who will fight for equality - and all across America there are kids and teens who are being so heartbreakingly brave to come out in public and be truthful about who they are and they face taunting, bullying, abuse, violence and even murder.
Do you not understand any of this?
It's not a case of whether anyone here would be willing to swap places with Rob or Arnie. It's whether they'd be prepared to swap places with us. Would you do it?
clarification
Thank you
Thanks for posting that link.
It's just my opinion, but I thought their apology was well written, sincere and showed an understanding of how they'd offended people. And also that they'd learnt from it. That impression was reinforced by what they said in the radio broadcast - which was fascinating. Weirdly enough, after all this farrago, they might have found themselves another on-line listener.
Anyway, thank you again for posting that URL. And I know you came to this site just on one issue, but I've enjoyed your passion and thinking - even if I haven't agreed with it - and I'd hope you'd stick around the site and comment on other issues as well.

Weird isnt it how there seems to be alot of "new" members that only have posted here, Hmmm you were not told to sign up and post here where you?
You did off your own backs?
No I dont think so.

thanks for drooling
It is obvious that most of the members of AfterElton are familiar with being themselves and loving themselves. Unfortunately they are also familiar with the kind of bigotry that broadcasts like The Rob Arnie and Dawn Show dish out on a daily basis. Some of us are also well versed in gender issues and are experts in gender dysphoria and gender identity.
Unlike the managers at KRXQ and some of their sponsors -and of course unlike Rob and Arnie, we are also concerned about the welfare of children. The terrible damage that a show like this does must be acknowledged. If you agree with the kind of violence they propose toward children, then you are as sick as them and there is perhaps no hope for you. But thankfully our children will inherit a better world in spite of people like you, the managers at KRXQ and your nasty efforts.
GET OVER IT !!!!!
I do not think they should have to give an apology. Last time I checked we still live in America, now as an American I can say what I want when I want. If some thinks it offensive or does not like my opinion as an American they have the legal right to too tell me I'm wrong or I'm an Ahole. Now if any of you have ever heard the show then you would know that they will offend everyone and if you don’t like it change the station. I have listened to the show since the day the came to Sacramento, and they have offended me and I change the station. But the point of the show is to talk about news topics that other news programs wont talk about. As far as gay and lesbians and transgender goes you are freaks you are weirdoes, it's not normal for a man to love a man, or woman to love a woman, or a boy who thinks he's a girl. If it was normal none of us would be here. Now just because I do believe in your lifestyle does that mean hate people because of there sexual orientation no. What I do believe in the freedom to do what you want, it's your life. But if you are gay, lesbian, or transgender people will talk the will make comments they will laugh, and some of die for what you believe in and for that I'm truly sorry. But you have to learn to deal with it and accept that people do not understand and will hate you for what you believe in. At lease Rob and Arnie had the balls to say what they meant, this political correctness sweeping America pisses me off. GET OVER IT oh and in the words of Rob Williams how important is it in the light of eternity.
Good Grief, your diapers need changing!
OK, I'm not an American, but I'm calling you an asshole anyway. I could get away with calling you an asshole in my country, too, even though we haven't got a first amemendment. But I could call you an asshole in any country and still face no sanction because the truth is an absolute defence against libel.
So your argument is that Rob and Arnie should use their free speech but if someone uses free speech against them, then somehow they're victims? Lemme get this straight (and I use the word advisedly), it's only free speech if you use it? But if I use it, then somehow it's wrong?
So let's get onto another point? I have a life, not a lifestyle. And while I'll happily defend your right to live the life you want, I sure as hell won't defend your lifestyle if that includes sitting behind your computer, going into a primarily gay site and tippy-tapping away that people you've never met are unnatural freaks and weirdoes. Exactly how badly are you being brought up? You might be wearing long trousers, but from the kind of shit you're spewing, I'm pretty sure you're not out of diapers.
Oh, and another thing. Rob and Arnie used their free speech, lots of others used theirs. Guess what, all those people you don't like include corporations that pay Rob and Arnie's wages. It's not political correctness, it's common sense and good manners. Rob, Arnie and you displayed neither. And now you're being spanked. Guess what, you're losing. Grow up and get used to it.
Also, you're quoting Robbie Williams from boyband Take That to back up your case? He's been fucking odd for years now - you might need a new prophet.
.
...
Nope its not that simple
Pro tip
1st amendment . right to free speech! have you forgotten ?
These people...
Freedom of Speech means you can say what you want to say, but...
It also means you have to take responsibility for saying it, and you have to accept the consiquences when you speak. If you say something offensive, even as a joke, and people call you out on it, be ready to defend yourself, or be ready to apologize. Do I think Rob and Arnie are bad people? I don't know them personally, so I can't say. What I do know is those two made some very boneheaded comments that were ment to ellicite laughs, and instead made a lot of people very angry, and now they have to deal with it. Just because you have the freedom to speak freely doesn't mean you shouldn't think before you speak.
As my friend Ashtyn and I would say, Rob and Arnie plowed the cow on this one.

and lets not forget ......... MISS CALIFORNIA . many gay people are simply pissed at Carrie Prejean for her anti-gay marriage stance, or her conservative views in general. Carrie has a right to her opinions, she has a right to any political stance she wants. yet the gay community tried to destroy her for it !!!!!!! and you wonder why people comment negatively or have a hard time accepting the gay community ! wake up !!!!!!! again i say free speech is our right !!!!!!! how about addressing some of the other things that was said above .do you think that gay rights demonstrations in the bay area promoting sex and promiscuity sets a good example for the youth today? have you attended some of these? if you have then you know what goes on !!!! what about the fact that it has now become a fad in schools in some areas to be gay or bi ! cool ! even in elementary ! give me a break ! whats with the extreme flamboyancy !!! is this normal ? tell me ! is it ? gays that love eachother want to be married right ! whats next ? brother and sister because they love eachother ? niece and uncle ?cousins?one man and 4 wives ? where does it stop? they will say the same thing ! we have our rights ! we love eachother ! tell me please !
If we tell you, will you listen?
One question to you, logic. Are you here to rant or to discuss? If you are here to discuss and find answers to your questions, then this could be an interesting debate.
You might not agree with the answers that people here will give you, but you can guarantee that the answers you receive (from the people who aren't just irritated at your tone) will be truthful and sincere.
Time to discuss Logic.
Freedom of speech goes both both ways. You have the freedom to say what you just said logic (umm...), and I have the freedom to reply. Free speech is a two way street.
You have your list of people who are off limits, and yet I have to say, for being off limits those groups are constantly being attacked. The problem isn't that you can't attack them, the problem is that they talk.
As for those who are fair game... well, they are. Everyone is fair game. If you make any public statement expect someone to disagree with you. I excpect plenty of people to disagree with me, but that is something I understand when I enter into an argument.
Miss California got a lot of backlash for what she said. She said it in a public forum, therefor opening herself up to critcism. I've noticed that people who throw around the "free speech" argument really aren't fans of true free speech, because they don't think that they should be criticized for saying whatever they want, and are not fans of discussions, just proclemations.
Trust me logic, it is still not "cool" to be gay or bi. Kids are still harassed, humiliated, beaten and even killed because they are percieved as gay or bi. And what about extreme flamboyancy? So? Also, the idea of what is normal is not a constent. It is constantly changing and shifting as society grows and changes. What is "normal" for one individual may not be considered "normal" for another. There really is no such thing as normal, just common.
The issue with saying that polygomy and incest are going to come next when it comes to the marriage argument is this. In incest, there is the issue of consent and control. Other than just the biological and social issues, it is also that since the relationship is formed within the confines of an already established hierarchy, one cannot say that one or both of the partners fully consent. One member always holds more authority than the other. An uncle holds authority over a niece or nephew. How can that niece or nephew truly be considered a consenting adult when the person they are with is someone they have been taught to respect and obey all their lives? Even with siblings. One sibling is older, and therefor holds a certain degree of power over the younger sibling. So why can't family members get married (and why should incestious relationships be considered a problem)? It is near impossible to establish true consent from both parties.
Why is polygomy a problem? Well, other than the misogony in the whole idea, there is again considered the problem with consent, and also equal rights. Look at every single one of these polygomist groups. They are all male dominated, and the brides are forced to marry at a young age to older men that they did not choose to marry. As for equal rights. Say all parties involved are of age and give full concent to the agreement, then why can't they be legally joined? Well, specifically with polygomy, it means that only the husband can take on more spouses. The wives on the other hand are required to be faithful to their husband, one singular male. If you take away the gender roles, and allow both partners to have multiple spouses, then what is the problem? Other than a major legal headache and the total deconstruction of legal (state and federal marriage) marriage, there really is no issue, other than a personal, moral one. A marriage contract would become worthless and meaningless, but in this day and age of drive through weddings, 48 hour marriages and a sky rocketing divorce rate, isn't it already? If the people involved are all legally unrelated adults who give full and knowing concent, I don't really care what they do in their personal lives. The thing is, if polygomy/polyamory was legal, how many people would honestly do it?
Free speech is your right Logic, but it is also my right.
