God Bless BBC America: Torchwood headed Stateside

Yes, folks -- there is a God, and she loves John Barrowman as much as Michael does we do.

BBC America announced today that they are adding Torchwood (the Dr. Who spinoff based around Barrowman's bisexual Captain Jack Harkness character) to their Saturday evening lineup, starting later this year. The impressive Supernatural Saturday program already includes Hex, Life on Mars, and Dr. Who, and will gain both Torchwood and Jekyll, starring James Nesbitt.

They'll also be bringing us teen soap Hollyoaks (which has some gay bits), the new Jennifer Saunders comedy The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle, and -- last, but certainly not least -- season five of the ever-fabulous Footballers Wives, which features none other than Alexis Carrington herself, Joan Collins.

The press release credits the changes in the schedule to new head honcho Garth Ancier, an out gay man who used to head up the similarly gay-friendly WB. We featured Ancier in a piece we did a few months back on powerful gay men in Hollywood. It would appear that he's looking out for us!

Here's a big "Hip! Hip!" and a "He's a jolly good fellow" to Ancier for his programming prowess and his new position. Long live the ... er ... new head of BBC America!

And here is a clip of what you have to look forward. This is from Torchwood's season finale and is one of the best same-sex kisses you'll see in TV this year.

I've already seen the entire

I've already seen the entire first series of Torchwood, but I'm interested in seeing if BBCA cuts anything from it.

Another series that will air this summer, Sinchronicty, also featured gay characters.

Will BBC America Censor Torchwood

My thoughts exactly!! I know that they will bleep out the F-bombs but let’s see if they edit out any of the sexual (gay and straight) content. I am sure that there are enough Torchwoodites here in the states that have seen the entire series that if BBCA starts to censor the series, we can look forward to email blitzes!!!  Ed The True Enemy Of Art Is Good Taste -Pablo Picasso

Sorry if any of this is considered spoilers

I'm also curious if they'll censor Sinchronicity. If I remember correctly, the very first episode featured a blowjob scene between two guys. That pretty much set up the entire arc for one of the main characters, so I wonder how they would get around that... I guess they could cut after the kissing scene? As for Torchwood, it would be awful if they cut what gay content the show actually had, but left all the stuff with Owen having sex with most of the female cast. Especially since the special features on the dvds recently confirmed that the Jack/Ianto kiss was cut.

How about Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!?

I'd love to see BBCAmerica air Jonathan Harvey's late 90s comedy Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, a kind of Will & Grace, about best friends and roommates Tom, a gay actor, and Linda, a deluded nutjob.  Here's Tom and Linda playing charades from the Millenium special:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUMuk1X23YU

wow

This is great news, censorship issues notwithstanding.   Up here, it will air on the CBC around the same time (early fall), but I'm not sure if it will be edited for adult content or not.

I only watched a bit of the clip, because I'm avoiding even non-spoilers, but damn, that  Naoko Mori looks gorgeous and sophisticated doesn't she?  And given what else was on display, it's saying a lot that I noticed her at all...

God Damn BBC Americfa

[Ancier is an ass, and although I wanted Torchwood, it is not worth losing Benny Hill, Are You Being Served, Avengers and any hope of anything older. God Damn BBC America.

That clip is no longer available

And it's not from the finale. Although it is one of my top all time TV kisses, for sure.

The Clip Is Still Available

it's just that the clip posted on AfterElton was submitted by someone who had to pull his clips because of copyright rules.

If you go to YouTube and search for Torchwood Jack/Jack or episode 12, you should be able to see this amazing kiss.
