Today the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominations for the 65th annual Golden Globe Awards. While there were very few legitimately gay films to choose from in the first place, some films with gay pedigrees (Hairspray, Sweeney Todd) racked up the nods.
Here's a rundown of the gay-related noms. They're trickling out gradually (and there are a lot to get through, between movies and television), so I'm updating as they hit the wire. Refresh for updates!

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"
"Across the Universe" is nominated for best comedy. It features a lesbian character named Prudence, played by T. V. Carpio. We first meet her on a football field, where she's dressed as a cheerleader and sweetly singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand." She appears to be directing the song at a young football player who's chatting up another cheerleader, but, just as Prudence reaches the line, "let me be your man," we realize it's the cheerleader she's singing to. It's a spine-tingling moment in a movie filled with such moments.
i almost threw up
when i saw travolta's name. the globes LOVE him, though, so it's not surprising. i just hope THE ACADEMY doesn't fall for it.

Who deserves to be nominated
I also hope the Academy doesn't fall for Travolta's ploy (even tho' he's the movie's biggest star, and gets top billing, he bumps himself down to Supporting). On Broadway, Harvey Fierstein won the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical.
Travolta took up a Supporting slot that really should've gone to Hal Holbrook, who is giving a career-capping performance in ''Into the Wild.'' I hope he wins the Oscar.
And here's two out guys who could've been nominated for a Golden Globe: Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, for writing the new song ''Come So Far'' for ''Hairspray.''
