Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road

Spoiler Warning: I don't survive this post!

Yes, today's my last day here at AfterElton/Logo. My position was eliminated earlier this week as a part of a round of layoffs, but as I have been eating and breathing gay entertainment news for the past two and a half years, it took a few days to wean me off the teat. And hey, I wasn't about to get the queer blog version of "the bends" ("the bendovers"?) the week before Gay Pride.

For those of you who are casual readers or have better things to do than listen to me get misty-fingered, allow me to say thanks and goodbye, and you can stop reading here. For those of you who may miss me even just a little, feel free to join me for a round of shooters after the jump.

In the interest of Maximum Gay Drama, please allow this clip to play while you finish reading this post (punctuated by the occasional toss of confetti, and capped of course with a standard "Dying Swan" pose):

Alright, so it's been fun, for the most part ... and I sincerely hope you feel the same way. You're a great group of folks and I hope that my strange (and often inappropriate) take on the current state of gay pop culture has contributed to the conversation in the best possible way. Please stay vigilant, and kind, and let's never lose our ability to laugh at ourselves ... because we really are a very amusing bunch of people, when you get right down to it. Own it, and use it against the haters like an artillery of rainbow-colored water-balloons, and never let the bastards get you down. (Or is it "ass"? ... "never let them get your ass" ...?)

Thanks to Michael for letting me on this crazy gay Tilt-a-Whirl in the first place, and major props to fellow Associate Editor Dennis Ayers for his unflagging patience and support and for making sure everything around here works like a dream. Big love to all the bloggers and vloggers and writers I've had the pleasure of working with, particularly my main men snicks and Lyle, who will be here to dry your eyes when Cyndi is done wailing like a mink in rut and to carry the blog into its next phase.

I don't know where I'll land, but I'm sure it will be in a perfectly green pasture of one kind or another. In the meantime there's the summer, the magic of Central Park at dusk, the simple joy of our new Garden Zombie (Best.Wedding.Gift.EVER.) and of course the continued brilliance of True Blood to enjoy. If you want to keep tabs on me you can always visit me at my gay horror site CampBlood.org (which will be seeing quite the content surge in the coming weeks, I imagine) or I'm sure we'll run into one another somewhere, probably when we least expect it.

All the best,

Brian
