Great Moments in Delusion: Isaiah says Knight should have been fired
Isaiah Washington -- fresh off of comparing himself to human rights leader Malcolm X -- is now saying that T.R. Knight is the person who should have been fired from Grey's Anatomy. According to an interview Washington recently gave to the Houston Chronicle:
Wow -- I'm surprised that Washington didn't go on to say that "if T.R. hadn't worn that pretty little red dress none of this every would have happened -- he asked for it, I swear!" In the audio that accompanies the article, Washington notes, "There is no way in my mind and in my heart that I could be homophobic" and "When it turned into this whole 'Isaiah is homophobic' thing, I don't know how and I don't know why and I don't know when". This is after he has publicly admitted on several occasions to using the word "faggot" on the set. Maybe that might somehow be related to the whole "homophobic thing"? Seriously -- he says Knight created a negative work environment?! For what -- being gay and forcing Washington to call him a faggot? And that being forcibly outed as a result of a physical altercation between two other cast members and the use of hate speech was all part of Knight's master plan to get more screen time and a raise? This guy is nuts, I'm sorry. How can he blame the victim and play the victim in the same breath? Submitted by on Thu, 2007-06-21 08:31. |

This is beyond pathetic from
OH...MY....GOODNESSSSSSSSSS
is this a joke? nevermind, don't even bother answering.
one darn question- if he feels he isn't homophobic and all that other junk....WHYYYY did he go to rehab, etc? i mean, if he feels he did nothing wrong....wouldn't he of defended himself and said "um, no way...." ???
whatever. he's such a loser.
Pathetic indeed.
He is obviously scrambling to save his career; why else would he say something so absurd. Next thing you know he will say it was a set-up by the Gay Mafia! Its all about keeping his name in the headlines.
Thing is, he may have said what he did about T.R. out of anger or frustration; we all say things we don't really mean when we are mad. Instead of owning it like a man and apologizing however, he is now trying to flip the scrip' and blame someone else for his mistake. An old tired tactic that we gay boys are all too familiar with.
He is pathetic, ridiculous and transparant.
it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice
I felt a little sympathy for
I felt a little sympathy for Washington at first; I thought it was like Davis from The Real World: Denver, where he had that moment where things escalated, and he was so angry he just snapped, and he said the most offensive thing he could think of, but he didn't really mean it, or something.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt; unlike Gibson's antisemitic drunk-driving incident (which was just confirming to everyone what was already suspected of him), this was Washington's first offense.
But this? Wow. Is he trying to destroy his career now?
Getting REALLY tired.
I don't think a day has gone by without AE reporting some insignificant detail of this fiasco. I don't care about Knight, Washington, or Grey's Anatomy. Washington is a self-absorbed homophobe plain and simple, I don't care to give him any more attention than that deserves.
I call for a moratorium on any and all Grey's Anatomy related "news".
I'm with you, believe me
I call for a moratorium
on you commenting on any and all Grey's Anatomy related news if it bothers you so much.
In case you hadn't noticed, "if you don't pay attention to it, it will go away". And by simply commenting on the stories about him, you *YOURSELF* are giving him attention. Whether or not you can see the irony in that, that's your problem. You keep on commenting on it over and *OVER* again. If you could resist the temptation to comment, perhaps others could resist the temptation to blog about it.
Meanwhile... let those of us who have something to say about this and want to be heard, speak our mind. This story is not just about Isaiah or T.R., it's about the broader issues of relations between the black and the gay ("white" or otherwise) communities.
Would that it be that we could just ignore all homophobes, and pretend that they have no effect on anyone else in the world, and live in a nice vaccuum-sealed gay-friendly world, free of the hate that can be observed in this world.
Wasn't it reported ...
... that during the altercation with Dempsey, Washington said "I'm not your little f***** like TR?"
If that's true, then how can he say he didn't direct it at TR in the first place?
He really should just shut up and get on with his life, he's making it worse for himself, especially playing the "victim" now.
Let him dig his grave.
I find it hilarious that he is spouting all of this just after saying he'd be "willing" (HA!) to come back to Grey's for cameo appearances in the future. He's stomping on any minuscule chance he ever had of going back to that show, even as a backdrop, and if he doesn't wise up he's going to ruin his entire career.
...which I would love. So, let him say what he wants to say. He's just making himself look an ass.
He seems to think he ABC owes him.
He seems to think that an apology deserves an award. If I "do what you ask" and apologize and do a PSA then I deserve another season.
Because he sure as hell didn't apologize or do the PSA because he believes he was hurtful or because he opposes abusing gay people. Since he "did nothing wrong" then the apology was not for what he did but for what he thought it would get him.
Total jerk.
And this is what Jasmine Cannuck calls "the racism of the white gay male community"? Sorry Jasmine, you lose credibility for this stunt.
WTF?
Just when I think this guy can't surprise me anymore, he says something even more idiotic than the last idiotic comment he made. Wow. He really just doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut, does he?
I really hope everyone sees him for the ass he really is, but this poll makes me nervous.
Maybe Isaiah is voting for himself...
My last comment on this whole topic
I am so tired of this loudmouth getting all the non-stop media attention every time he opens his mouth and his latest diatribe falls from it.
So, in the spirit of my favourite lady, Anne Robinson...
"Isaiah Washington, You ARE the weakest link - goodbye!!"
The Bottom Line
Ok,
I felt it necessary to create an account just so I could post on this issue. The best way I know how to start is by saying this:
When the concept of social justice and equality is reduced to popular appeal and cultural shifts, then we are living in phony times.
My opinion of IW before all of this drama was that he was an intriguing, regal dramatic actor who understood and respected the craft deeply. That opinion has not changed. Whether he is "arrogant" "rude" or even "ignorant" is of no concern to me as an audience member.
When the buzz around the Oct. 9th incident started up, I was both confused and disappointed by the allegations. But I was equally confused and dissappointed that the incident was being spun into a tabloid story when it seemed that the the show and the network just wanted to continue doing the work that it was doing.
Since then, there have been some clear missteps on behalf of IW, but also on behalf of ABC, T.R. Knight's camp, and **the public at large**.
Mostly, I'm upset that we as a community have participated in such a ridiculous media circus that, in the end, hasn't done much to solidify any sort of legitamate progress, healing, or even mere tolerance.
Like most everyone else, I don't have all of the "facts" on this incident. But in context of what I have read, I don't believe that this termination has meant much of anything beyond a network making a business decision, therefore it's useless to project meaning onto it in terms of some sort of "statement" on tolerance. In the meantime, a perhaps too temperamental human being naively allowed himself to be stringed along by a system that ultimately saw him as a tool.
Please spare me the "what if" hypothetical scenarios. Any and every incident of alleged bigotry must be dealt with individually. Further, I really hope no one on here is vacant enough to try to compare this to the Imess saga. Two completely different incidents, two completely different circumstances under which terminations took place.
It may do us all some good to assess what IW has to say in the wake of all of this:
