IMHO "30 Rock": The "gay bomb" fallout revealed!
Okay, maybe that headline doesn't deserve an exclamation point because the reveal in question lasted about 2.3 seconds. But the fact that last night's episode of the most celebrated comedy on television made a sly reference to last season's cliffhanger "gay bomb" finale was enough to put a mediocre episode over the top for this Six Sigma survivor. Yes, I have been to those effing "team building" conferences ... although of course not here at Logo, where "team building" is naturally more along the lines of karaoke at gay bars and synchronized snapping training in the conference room (with cocktails!). So when Liz and Jack headed to an offsite to work on their efficiency and management skills, I was in flashback city. But before all the Lego challenges and buzzword BINGO, Liz took a moment to ask Jack exactly what DID happen during his mysterious and ill-fated stint in the Bush administration. This led to a brief flashback to Jack's accidentally setting off the "gay bomb" in a Pentagon conference room, after which he apparently ripped a Dick Cheney lookalike's clothes off and asked him to "please ... be gentle".
I love this show. I love that even when it's completely ridiculous (like Jenna's Janice Joplin plot and Kenneth's "Hill Witch" scares were) it still manages to sneak in a few moments like the one above to catch you off-guard (Liz's "robot penis" was another). Here's the full episode, in case you missed it and your boss is coming in late. The gay bomb gag is in the first scene. Thoughts? Is the show back in form this season, with the Teen Witch references and decreased reliance on stunt-casting? Top that! Submitted by on Fri, 2009-01-23 10:08. |

With the TEEN WITCH rap on
