Isaiah Washington to play priest, former abuse victim

UPDATE: It's being reported that Washington did not submit his name for Emmy consideration. A nation mourns.

Here's some befuddling news to start the day: Grey's Anatomy News is reporting that the first role that F-word-dropping, set-disrupting actor Isaiah Washington has taken post-scandal is that of a Catholic priest who returns to the school where he was sexually abused as a student.

Um, okay...

The film, called The Least of These, was written by Nathan Scoggins, who said he reached out to Washington when he learned the actor wasn't getting any offers after his highly-publicized verbal attack on gay castmate T.R. Knight (and physical attack on Patrick Dempsey). He notes that "This is part of him moving forward and making restitution".

By playing what sounds like might be the victim of a closeted gay priest who doesn't speak up for abuse victims. Some people really have a way with apologies.

We'll update when we know more -- Washington hasn't commented but the film rolls in June, so we should be hearing more before too long. We're hoping that right now this just sounds like a worse idea than it really is. Until we find out, enjoy the above still from Ghost Ship.
