IYHO: What did you watch this weekend?

Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen

It seemed like there was a heckuva lot of gay TV on this weekend (even Friday's episode of The Soup was 100% More Gay than usual), so I thought I'd kick off the week with an open thread to see what folks liked and didn't like.

Did you check out the de-gayed Inaugural concert? Or maybe the season premieres of United States of Tara, Big Love, or The L Word? The continuing adventures of our peeps on Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters? And let's not even get started on how SNL shit the bed in the follow-up to Neil Patrick Harris's appearance ...

After the jump, I'll start the conversation on a few of the shows I caught, but this one's all about you. Judge freely!

Matt Ross (Alby from Big Love)

United States of Tara: Diggin' it. Looking forward to meeting Alice (the as-yet-unseen "alter") and seeing what happens with Marshall, whose crush on a classmate will apparently play a central role in the upcoming season.

Big Love: Oh my. I'll admit I haven't really given this show much of a chance thus far but I think I'm sold. Seriously, is there a more immersive and utterly creepy universe on television than the one that these characters inhabit? I'm loving that Matt Ross (Alby) is still having issues in men's restrooms (anyone remember his hilarious scene in American Psycho?).

Saturday Night Live: No bad gay jokes this week that I can remember, but good heavens what a stinker! The highlight sketch was a police procedural written by a fourth-grade Spanish class, which is oddly appropriate given that 10-year-olds apparently wrote the rest of the show as well. And the "bromance" digital short? Too little too late, guys. Have you turned on a TV lately?

So enough about me. What'd you think?

Hmmmmm.....

I mostly spent the weekend getting caught up on various shows and/or watching the football games.  I did watch Brothers & Sisters last night.... and it was all I could do to not put my foot through the television.  Fortunately, I happen to like my television.

Oh you mean the atrocity

Oh you mean the atrocity that was the letdown of a lifetime?  I don't think I've been angrier at a television show!  And of course Desperate Housewives started it off with a boring episode of their own.  I did happen to catch an episode of How Not To Decorate on BBC America on Saturday and remembered how much better British viewers have it...

P.S. Way to follow up heckuva with shit the bed, Brian.  I know I enjoyed the change up very much!

that SNL short was cringe-inducing

Horrible. Not even Will Forte's rear could save it (although i appreciate the effort his cheeks gave).

What was i watching? The beginning of the AUSTRALIAN OPEN, of course! Just two weeks til my Roger wins another major.

Lordy what a stinker of a night!

DH went from that  great episode last week to a totally pointless episode and on top of it all we get two weeks of reruns. The only thing B&S had that was good were the Geeky boys looking strangely hotter than ever. Then - although it was as hot as the first time- my local station reran the hot shirtless, BD, SM episode of "Legend of the Seeker".

Legend of the Seeker

Is this any good?  I didn't realize what it was until several episodes in - I've read all the books in the series.  I've got about 3 or 4 episodes on the DVR to catch up on.  Wondered if it was worth it.

Weekend Television

It's not gay-related, but I spent the weekend continuing to slog through my massive Spooks marathon (MI-5 on this side of the pond.)

And curiously avoiding watching any of the shows backed up on my TiVo.  Considering that I love Supernatural, it's odd that I can't make myself watch the latest one.

I did catch the incredible premiere of the last batch of Battlestar Galactica. Awesomesauce!
