James Franco lets it all hang out regarding his "Milk" nude scenesWe've been posting a lot about James Franco lately because he's being going out of his way to talk about his role as Harvey Milk's lover Scott Smith in Gus Van Sant's Milk biopic during his press appointments for Pineapple Express. And not only that, but he's doing it with style, humor, and a refreshing lack of "no homo", as displayed beautifully in his appearance on last night's Jimmy Kimmel where he discusses his use of a prosthetic penis during the nude scenes and how at ease he and fellow straight co-star Sean Penn were with each other when playing lovers. Not to get all Zapruder film or anything, but notice how he doesn't drop his gaze or voice when he gets to the "gay" parts - he's a true pro, and a hell of a funny interview as well. And wait, did he really just reference Murmur of the Heart?! Submitted by on Fri, 2008-08-08 15:34. |

He's adorable
He's completely taken over Ashton Kutcher's gig as "Goofy Good-looking Straight Guy."
I first noticed him in Altman's The Company. He's one more reason to look forward to Milk.
Nudity is a very serious
James Franco rocks!
I am starting to respect Franco a great deal as he's quite serious about the academic stuff. I read something a while back in which he made the realization acting is a gig that can come and ago (and has before) way to easily and he wanted to maximize his chances of being able to stay in the business without worrying about trying to be/remain/regain flavor of the month status. If he joins the Apatow express and does good work in Milk, I think that he may have to take his time finishing his degree as he may be getting an offer or two(hundred).
Did any one else try and get a visual on Franco and Penn jumping up and down with their respective prosthetics? 5 love scenes filmed? Not bad Mr. Penn. Thanks for posting this Brian as I would have missed it.

wow, this was actually
wow, this was actually really funny. Also the first time I've ever seen James in an interview. I think I've only seen him in Spiderman and he was great in that movie of course, but I can't wait to see his other movies now. I love how comfortable he is talking about everything, and open and really a perfect guest at a late night show.
I can't really see any similarity with Ashton Kutcher though, but maybe that's because I never liked him. He was more like someone who tried to be funny be wasn't.
could he....
could he be the next jake gyllenhaal?? ;-) maybe HE will be #1 next year in the top 100.
:-P
Josh Wald tops my list, but Franco's demeanor is making a strong

Brilliant!
He was pretty darn gay in

I thought that movie got a lot of crap because it was't gay enough? Something about how James Dean's bisexuality goes completely ignored in it.
That made me not want to see it. v.v
James Dean/Sonny
It was hinted at in a terribly melodramatic and silly way. It would have been better off being totally ignored.
As for Sonny mentioned below, yes, it's a movie about a hustler: but one who is "reduced" to sleeping with a man in a scene that's so dramatic and awful you'd think he was going to rape a bunny rabbit.
Anyways, let's hope Milk deals with the gay subject more sanely.

James Franco also played gay in "Blind Spot," a film that has apparently disappeared into the ether. Has anybody seen this film? The film he should have played gay in, at least in theory, was "Sonny" in which he played a gigolo--a big disappointment.
