Johnny Weir lands in seventh at Worlds

Yesterday we posted that American skater Johnny Weir was in fourth place after the short program competition at the World Figure Skating Championship in Tokyo. We've just learned that after the free skate program Weir ultimately finished in seventh place.

That's a bummer, as we were rooting for the flamboyant and oft-persecuted skater. But hey -- if you don't bring it, you don't bring it. French skater Brian Joubert (pictured), who was in the lead going into the second day, took the title. This gives him six wins this season and makes him the first Frenchman in 42 years to win the Worlds.

Reports noted that Joubert skated to "string renditions of heavy metal music", which sounds kind of like the Apocalyptica covers of Metallica songs that were used prominently in the film Your Friends and Neighbors.

If you're not familiar with Weir's work, here's a video of his short program from Wednesday (I love the "music from a diamond commercial circuit party megamix" soundtrack).
