Olbermann names Rep. Foxx "Worst Person in the World" for calling Matthew Shepard hate crime murder a "hoax"
"She is our shame." Atta boy, Keith! And of course her words fell on deaf ears anyway, as the House just yesterday passed the gay-inclusive hate crimes bill ... so not only is she the Worst Person in the World, she's also not terribly effective.

Yeah!
Go get 'em Keith! You know I was talking to my grandmother the other day, and it still seems like the very older (Golden Girls age) doesn't get us. I mean, our mothers do, our sisters, this very younger generation, but not this very older one. They say things like "well its okay to practice that lifestyle" or "I don't understand, but i guess it's because it's just not my thing" as if, I still love you, but just make sure the neighbors (or anyone else in the world for that matter) dont know. You know whom I'm talking about because they were the ones that got the "kissing ban" placed on LOAH! I know that they were not raised like us, but that is still no excuse for Foxx's comments, and Matthew's mother was in the room!! That's actually quite repulsive and while I don't expect a retraction, I hope she understands just how wrong she is beacuse this younger generation needs to know the truth, and to never be afraid of people like Foxx.
Kitty
Rep. Foxx
I'm from NC and I remember some of the evil that woman has dished out! She was such a nasty person towards her own political party during a campaign that it made national news. I heart Keith Olbermann.

Bigotry is alive everywhere
This is outrageous and sad, but really doesn't surprise me at all.. Nothing about bigotry and homophobia surprises me anymore, it's really sad.. I'm glad Olbermann said something about it though.
A homophobic woman won a "free speech" award here in Norway, she won the award together with 60 000 US$. She spewed ut hate like "kids growing up with lesbian parents are handicapped" and "gay people are sick".. They actually gave HER the award! It became a huge issue here, and the gay movement protested against her, and I would have joined them too if I could.
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
20/20 doc....
i see now she is basically saying "oh, i saw a 20/20 documentary and got it from there...my bad"
whether it's named after matthew or some other person, the meaning behind the bill is what counts i think. I'm baffled she seemed to have an issue with who it was named after.
Vulnerable History
This happens time and time again. The history of gay people is left out of the history books and that makes it vulnerable to revisionism by the opposition. We need our history to gain empathy, to get people to see why the rights we're fighting for are human rights. People don't believe gay people have ever suffered from not having rights because they don't know the history.
Maybe Foxx is just ignorant. Maybe while I was feeling sick to my stomach as the details of Matthew Shepard's murder were coming out other people were just totally oblivious. I know I focus on gay news because I'm gay. But seriously, how can anyone who was old enough to comprehend what was going on in 1998 not know the story.
This kind of misinformation should be taken as a threat and attack on the gay population. We still have to get this through the Senate. Though I'm pretty sure it'll get through without a Filibuster, I don't want to be surprised by a defeat.
Music for Matthew
In resonse to the misinformed statement, or what is possible a bold faced lie, my friend Lee wrote a song for Matthew. He plans on using all of the money he makes from the song go make a dontation to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. You can find out more info at his blog where he also has it streaming if you want to give it a listen.
Also for those on Facebook, there's a page set up called FireFoxx where you can become a fan and keep up with the latest news concerning Foxx and her hateful actions.
The Foxx doesn't stand alone
Listen, Foxx isn't the first to assert that Matthew Shepard's killing was a hoax. In 2004 on that bastion of gay friendliness (ABC), Elizabeth Vargas badgered Matthew Shepard's killers (Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson) into saying that their motivation wasn't a hate crime. Posing the question in several different ways and even after they admitted in the interview, (as they did in court) that the crime was perpetrated because Matthew was gay.
While Olbermann rightfully calls for Foxx's resignation, Vargas still holds her position as
hate monger"journalist" and co-anchor of ABC News' 20/20. ABC touts Vargas' bashing of Matthew sheppard as "intellectually brave." Seriously, can you blame Rep. Foxx for relating information that was provided by a reputable news source and wanting to be intellectually brave as well? How can we chide one and not call out the other?
