Liveblogging As the World Turns: Nuke's drama continues

Hey, folks! We're here to bring those of you unable to experience the magic of Nuke in its full, live glory a play-by-play of today's episode. If you haven't been keeping track lately, things in Oakdale have gotten pretty complicated since out gay teen Luke (Van Hansis) shared a tender kiss with his closeted friend Noah (Jake Silbermann), who is dating their mutual friend Maddie.

Things promise to get more interesting today with Maddie confronting the fellas -- to keep up on the action as it happens, refresh often! (And if you join the party late, just start at the bottom to catch up!)

2:57 PM EDT And that's it. The Quaker Oats lady had a smeared-makeup mirror freakout (if she had only touched a framed photo of a lost loved one and put lipstick all over her lower face, it would have been a full-on Woman On the Edge freakout moment) and we went to previews, none of which were about Nuke. But we hear there are more interesting developments coming in the next two days, so we'll be back tomorrow to keep you posted!

2:52 PM EDT OH. MY. GOD. Lily (Luke's mom) is undercover as some kind of housefrau hooker, complete with cheetah-print dress and big hair. She says her name is Lola and she's hob-nobbing with the working girls. This is just like one of those episodes of Hunter when Deedee McCall had to go undercover as a prostitute!

2:44 PM EDT Blah, blah blah. Hey -- I thought that lady died in the oatmeal pit!

Oh, cool -- back to Luke and his dad. His dad asks if he's talked to Noah, and Luke says he doesn't have to casually ask about his nonexistent love life. His dad says it seems there's a problem, and Luke says it's not his problem. Amen!

Meanwhile, Noah and Maddie are still making out and General Perv is still watching. He storms in and says he's broken in at just the wrong time (methinks the general doth protest too much) and tells Noah how proud he is of him for being the heterosexual son that he has heterosexually always wanted. Maddie says hey, look -- he's heterosexually proud of you! Noah looks heterosexually miserable.

2:23 PM EDT Noah spins some gold about how he might be taking things too fast with Maddie and she says that all he needs to do is be honest. He then says he's never felt for anyone what he feels about her, and they make out. Conveniently, Noah's dad sees them macking and almost cackles with glee at the sight of his heterosexual son doing heterosexual-type things with women-type people.

Meanwhile, Luke runs into his father at a bookshop and has a bit of a heart-to-heart with him. Luke gets to share that he feels like he's watching his friends go through stuff and can't help while he wishes he can. His dad is obviously distracted and Luke asks him what's up, and he says he's really worried about Luke's mom.

Meanwhilewhile, Luke's mom (Lily) is hanging out with hookers and a guy that looks like he he was going to work on the Oz set and walked through the wrong door. The hookers think this guy killed someone named Cherie. The hookers do an interesting job of trying to sound tough, adopting the most Brooklynite Oakdale accents in their repertory.

2:11PM EDT: Mariska Hargitay is talking to me about childhood obesity as I munch on my Peanut Butter Monster Bar. Cue the shame spiral.

Austin is too drunk to drive ... and apparently too drunk to act.

They're back! Maddie asks how Luke could be having problems with Noah because of her, noting that due to Luke's gayness the three of them will never be involved in a love triangle. Luke starts to cover by saying he's been jealous of the time Maddie's been spending with Noah. Maddie doesn't buy it and Luke tries to leave, but she won't let him and asks why he's mad at her. Luke says he's not mad at her and he skates, and Maddie says that "like you said, he's always leaving" to Noah, and then asks him what HIS problem is.

2:04 PM EDT: Right off the bat, Noah and Luke are in an awkward triangle with Maddie. Maddie is all, "It's gotten so weird dealing with the two of you lately, what the eff is up?!" and we have a mini-montage of The Oakdale Teens' Most Awkward Moments. Luke says yeah, you're right -- we weren't talking about the project. He looks pleadingly at Noah to step up to the plate, then continues by admitting that they were, indeed, talking about her. And not, it is implied, in "the good way".

    I like to think...

...that this whole thing is being narrated by Alicia Silverstone's character in CLUELESS.  Makes it even better than it already is.  Delish Brian, loving it!

    refresh...

Can I color you GREEN... Mr. Juergens?

I would like to think of the above spoken in the voice of ace street reporter KERMIT the Frog!

But no matter how you'd care to imagine it... it's all good! I just hope something BIG goes down by the end of the week!

Thanks for that "Ace" reporting job! :)

    right on

It was a bit boring, overall, but we should be in for some more developments over the next two days. In any event, happy to have been the spoonful of sugar! ;)

    Exposition

It was a very expository episode, setting us up for events to come--a regular soap device. I don't know if Nuke will be on tomorrow, but they're definitely supposed to be on Thursday; however, we might be finding out something about Cheri's murder that (SPOILERISH RUMOR) may involve Noah and his father.

    loneranger's picture

Now that would be a Soap!

That would make a great storyline. I have always said there was something not right with the "colonel". It would be awesome if he ended up as the killer.

    Are they on tomorrow? I

Are they on tomorrow? I thought they were simply because there is so much stuff left to go through for Luke/Noah/Maddie for the week. But they're not in the previews for tomorrow... not that it means anything. So either they are on Wednesday and Thursday or Thursday is going to be crammed full of Luke/Noah goodness.

    About today's episode.....

I gotta say that for the first time today, I didn't like Noah. I've felt sorry for him, had sympathy for him and understood his problem. But today I didn't like him. He really ticked me off. I hated that, yet again, he stood by and said nothing while Luke covered for him, letting Luke look like the fool and the bad guy. But worse was his endless, endless kissing of Maddie, clearly trying too hard and create passion in a relationship where there is none. And his telling her 'I've never felt for anyone what I feel for you' just bugged me because it's a bald faced lie.

That near kiss with Luke had more steam and heat than all his smooches with Maddie. Yes, Noah felt bad about what he'd done, especially after his father (who takes wayyyyyy too much pleasure in watching his son make out with a girl) poured it on thick by telling him how happy he was to have a straight son. Okay, he didn't say that, but it's what he meant. Still though, for Noah, Luke is done with him. You heard him say 'maybe I should just get out' to Maddie and he later told Holden that it was not his problem. He's pulling himself out of his mess and I guess that's what he needs to do.

And Maddie continues to be stupid. Luke says he resents Noah because he takes up all of Maddie's time. Maddie says Luke isn't like that... but she chooses to believe it anyway. Sigh.

I guess I'm just bugging because this is a story that I actually give a damn about and can't wait to see what happens next. I'm sure he'll have my sympathies again after he and Luke's next tortured scene (which is just around the corner.....)

    CBS continues to promote Nuke!

Yet another promo for ATWT with Luke and Noah front and center alongside the show's current reigning supercouple, Carly and Jack:

    Isn't that great? CBS is

Isn't that great? CBS is making no bones about the fact that this is a gay relationship and these guys are falling in love. I don't think any major network has ever done that, prime time or daytime. They said they would treat Luke/Noah just like any other relationship and they're following through. The ad that ran in TV Guide last week is there again in this week's issue. The fact that the story is well acted and well written makes it even better.

These 2 Oakdale twinks are AWFUL!

They have zero chemistry! 2 twinks falling in love! Big whoop! The actors are terrible! too! At least the actress that played Bianca, Erika Kane's (the legendary Susan Lucci) lesbian daughter can actually act! These two are cringeworthy. And as usual, it has to be a WHITE gay love story. No diversity again! I hate these two. An Oakdale serial killer should just breeze into town and kill these 2 already! ATWT is about the older actors. It's about Jack/Carly, Lily, Barbara, Emily and Rosanna! These 2 twinks are just taking away from the screen time of characters that actually matter!

Poor ATWT's Maddie! Nay to B&B!

Why do Luke and Noah have to be so slutty too? Of course once Maddie finds out that her best gay pal has been playing tonsil hockey with her bf, then the shit is gonna hit the fan. Predictable soap opera contrivance. This is unimaginative soap writing at its worst. This betrayal of Maddie just makes Nuke a very unsympathetic, slutty couple. They are eons away from being a super couple, but now they are just 2 devious sluts who are too horny to think of how hurt Maddie would be. If the actors that play Nuke get nominated for Emmys, then the awards mean nothing. These 2 are so uncharismatic and ineffective in their roles as slutty twinks from smallville. If these 2 ever get nominated, the only logical explanation would be the closeted lead actors  of y&r (who are consistently nominated and win) must have campaigned for these 2 atrocious actors.

Also, if any soap opera should have a gay storyline, it should be B&B! It just celebrated its 20th year. It's the most popular soap opera in the world. It's aired in more than 50 countries with a huge worldwide following. It's the 2nd most watched show in the world, behind Idol I think. And, it's set in the frigging LA world of fashion! It's about fashion, and yet it has never had a principal/major gay character! The Forresters have been the core family for 20 years and counting. They've had incest, corporate intrigue, fashion rivalries, love triangles, love quadrangles, psychos, the usual soap plots. Yet not a single gay story has aired on b&b! They had one gay character named Sergei (which was oh so conveniently pronounced SerGAY). He was a fruity wedding coordinator or something flimsy and unsubstantial like that. Oh and as expected, he was WHITE too. Come to think of it B&B rarely has racial minorities and it's in LA! So they should work on that first before the gay storyline.

Look at the big picture, not just the moment.

The betrayal is what will make them sympathetic in the long run...all of them. It's shining a light on what many gay men in the world go through as they hide their sexuality - who they hurt, what they go through, the social pressures some face and the lengths they go to in their lies. Slutty? They've kissed!?!?!?! Dear God! I'm a street walking whore next to them.

I actually think Van is a good actor compared to the rest of that cast.

    Tying the storylines together

    Here is my prediction-

Noah's father the Colonel (better known as Frank Ryan from Ryan's Hope) killed Cheri the madam (better known as Heather from General Hospital or Janet from All My Children). It will turn out that Cheri was Noah's mother. The Colonel stole Noah from his mother because she was a prostitute. When the truth comes out about the murder (it will clear Dusty from all murder charges and give Lily a storyline for 3 months), Noah will be lost and confused. He will turn to Luke for comfort and end up sleeping with him. This will happen in mid-November just was sweeps month is in full swing.

    ATWT or Desperate Housewives?

Yikes! If that's where this horrific, terribly acted storyline is heading, then Desperate Housewives' Marc Cherry should demand to be paid for storyline royalties! That just reeks story rip off. Seriously, ATWT is about Rosanna, Carly, Jack, Lily, Barbara, Dusty, Emily, etc. Nuke is just eating up the screen time for the vets.

You have an odd idea of veterans

Luke has actually been on ATWT as a character longer than Jack or Carly.

    iloathesluts's picture

    DUH! Luke was rapidly aged!

Luke was a child who was rapidly aged. So homosexual Luke has only been on recently. Jack, Carly, Barbara, Rosanna, Emily, Lily, Dusty, etc. were all on longer than Luke. They are the veterans, not twinky, trampy Luke.

WHAT? Are we watching the same soap?

"The betrayal is what will make them sympathetic in the long run...all of them."

Nope. This makes ONLY Maddie sympathetic since she's the put upon soap opera heroine in this case. Her best friend and her boyfriend betray her by kissing behind her back. They lead her on with a fake romance and an even faker friendship. Who needs a best friend and a boyfriend if they are anything like Nuke?

"It's shining a light on what many gay men in the world go through as they hide their sexuality - who they hurt, what they go through, the social pressures some face and the lengths they go to in their lies."

That is a cop out. Was it lifted as a direct quote, word for word, from a cheater's handbook? Luke and Noah should've drawn the line and NOT acted on their overexcited hormones until both are available. The writers could've come up with other dramatic entanglements instead of the prerequisite cheating angle. It's done to death on soaps, so it's lame. If ATWT is trying to build a fan base to support Nuke, they've already blown their chances. 2 white, slutty twinks do not make a soap super couple.

    "Slutty? They've kissed!?!?!?!"

It doesn't matter if they've kissed or had an orgy in the Snyder barn. They already betrayed Maddie's trust and friendship. One is kissing his best friend's boyfriend. The other is kissing his beard/girlfriend's best friend. It's still cheating. Thus ATWT is trying to build a super couple out of 2 slutty twinks. Pathetic! Time to bring an Oakdale slasher to get rid of these 2 tramps.

"Dear God! I'm a street walking whore next to them."

    Ok..........................................

"I actually think Van is a good actor compared to the rest of that cast."

You have got to be kidding? Have you only just been watching this soap since the atrocious Nuke slut story? You just insulted multiple Emmy nominee and multiple Emmy winner Martha Byrne (Lily), multiple emmy nominee and Emmy winner Maura West (Carly), emmy nominne Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara), multiple emmy nominee and multiple emmy winner Cady McClain (Rosanna) and emmy nominee Michael park (Jack). Nuke is one of the most poorly conceived storylines on this soap. Van needs acting classes, pronto!

Interesting comments (and nickname) considering all those ATWT characters you profess to adore qualify much more in the "slut" category than Luke.
