Liveblogging "As the World Turns": Chicken al Fredo

It looks like today's episode will finally bring big baddie Fredo into the light, and let's just say that our Oakdale Alpha Gays don't exactly show him any "Hospitaliano"!

Yes, Mammamiadassapicybiodad finds himself at the mercy of Fredo's lead pipe (no, that's not a euphemism) and it's up to Luke and Noah to save him.

How will things go down (I'm thinking with unlimited breadsticks and a house chardonnay)? Follow along below, refreshing often for breaking updates!

Alright, now who had the Chicken Con Broccoli?

2:07PM EDT: We start with The Blonde Obstacle watching herself on television. Austin From Days calls her "baby", which probably isn't the best choice of words. She's mad that the Cafe Vienna Hilton let them fall in love with her half-baked pepperkakor, and Austin goes to get her some sleeping pills. Man after my own heart: If all else fails, PILLS!

Over at the Vienna Hilton, Vienna Hilton and Henry debate keeping the baby that they made with one another. She wants to model maternity clothes for him and he asks her to dig in his pockets for his credit card. Cafe Vienna runs into Austin moments later in Ye Olde Towne and tries to apologize again.

And Loocy is still being interrogated by Detective Clarice, until Lady Drumstick shows up to slap the donut out of her mouth. Hey, is it just me or does Loocy look particularly like Old Lily today?

At the Lily Pad, Luke didn't sleep well (Noah slept fine) because of what Loocy is going through. Noah has Luke tell his parents that Damian has a plan to help her. Down at the dock, Damian tells his thug that he wants to put out a notice that the Grimaldi Armada is looking to smuggle weapons, clearly trying to get the mysterious Fettucini Alfredo to show himself.

2:18PM EDT: Cafe Vienna shows up at Blonde Obstacle's to apologize, but she's all, "I'm sorry, I can't see you" ... um, she's standing right in front of you. OMG SHE'S GOT HYSTERICAL BLINDNESS! Oh ... no, she just meant she wanted her to leave. My bad!

She lets her in when the baby kicks. Fetuses cause a lot of problems, but they also solve them!

Noah's gotten himself a cup of coffee, and Luke argues with Holden about Damian's relative evilness. Noah points out that they tend to get run over, shot, etc. when his biopop is around. Noah, the voice of reason! -Ish. Noah goes to leave for work and Luke's all, "I'll go with you" and Noah's all, "Uh, why?"

Down at the dock, Damian gets a call from ... Fettucini Alfredo?

Lady D just said "bestill my bleeding heart". Isn't it "beating heart"? Otherwise wouldn't it be "beBand-Aid my bleeding heart" or something?

Noah tells Luke at Java that he has a few minutes before he has to not restock the biscotti station but Luke's all, "Oh yeah, I just said I was coming to work with you so I could sneak off to see my other dad." Noah says he doesn't like it, but Luke says it's really important to him. Quick "I love you"s and a kiss, and he's off to certain DANGER! Oh and Noah, could you marry those sugar canisters? Thanks!

2:28PM EDT: Cafe Vienna tells BO that they only lied because they were in shock when they discovered the truth. It was a peppershakor! BO tells Vienna that they still want the baby if she and Henry don't want it. Which of course they now do. PLEASE tell me BO is gonna steal the little bundle of strudel!

Down at the docks, Luke pops by to see Damian, who is less-than-thrilled to see him. He tells him to beat it, and Luke is all, "uh ... okay?" He then decides to give him an ultimatum, since he hasn't done that yet today. "You talk to me now or it's over!" He looks around for a stray candy dish to knock over should Damian give him the wrong answer...

Over at Java, Lily and Holden find out from Noah that Luke went after biodad. Back at the dock, Damian flips out on Luke and tells him to leave now. Luke complies, but then hides behind a wall and watches as Damian meets up with Alfredo. Damian gets Alfredo to admit to using his boats to smuggle guns, and when he does Damian pulls a gun on him, which Fredo then knocks out of his hand. Cue the gay! Luke runs out to help...

But first, Zach Braff as the voice of a puppy getting a manicure!

2:35PM EDT: Fettucini Alfredo kicks the gun away from Damian, but Luke swoops in like the gay superhero he is and stops Fredo from beating biodad with a lead pipe (like Professor Plum, in the Conservatory!). And before Fredo can go at them with a knife, Noah shows up, grabs the gun, and points it at Fredo!

Meanwhile, Detective Clarice bemoans the fact that the Snyders can't stay out of police business when Lily and Holden show up at the PD.

Damian asks Noah to give him the gun, but Fredo goes after Luke with the knife ... and NOAH SHOOTS!

Okay, Fredo's the one that falls, but didn't it look from the angle that he totally could have shot Luke instead?

2:40PM EDT: Luke congratulates Noah on his shooting skills, and Noah says he had to do target practice on the military bases all the time growing up. Luke wastes no time in reprimanding Noah for not using his shooting skills in other situations. Ha! Clarice of course shows up in time to clean up the mess.

2:56PM EDT: Babymama drama ... Austin from Days shares the great news that they want to raise Henry and Cafe Vienna's pepperkakor after all, and Henry is less than thrilled.

At Oakdale PD, Luke, Noah and Damian show up and it all gets sorted out, including delivering Fredo to the fuzz and Luke and Noah's heroics. Lady Drumstick is impressed that Damian risked all this to save Loocy.

Blonde Obstacle has a total shit-fit that Henry won't give them their baby. Okay, please tell me that this is gonna get ugly.

Detective Clarice comes in and reprimands Luke and Noah for ... what, saving her ass again? And it's not like they knew anything illegal was going down before they got to the dock - it was self-defense! Anyway, she lets Loocy go and kicks everyone else out. Loocy tells Luke that Damian only agreed to help her because he wanted Luke to respect him. Holden isn't nearly as tickled, and tells Damian to get out of Luke's life before he gets him killed.

Later at Java, Noah asks if they've fulfilled their quota of wacky adventures, and Luke promises "no more bad guys!" for a while. Noah eyes the biscotti station warily. Damian shows up and Luke tells him he can stop trying to convince him he's a good guy, because he believes him now. He thanks him for everything he's done for him, for Noah and for Loocy, and they hug. Back at the Lily Pad Holden is giving Lily a rather creepy backrub, and the fact that they talk about how great it is that they don't have to worry about Damian anymore means that they're going to have to worry about Damian some more.

Preview Time!: No Nuke. My wrists get a rest for a change!

How'd you sleep?

Did Lily seriously just ask the boys how they slept (in her house), and Noah answered for Luke?  I presume then, that unlike at Emma's, the boys aren't in separate sleeping arrangements?

Sleeping arrangements

I see that I am not the only one who picked up on this!

Yep.....

But it's no surprise that Holden and Lily wouldn't have an issue about them sharing a bed.  When they thought Luke was dating Jade way back when they let Jade stay with them.  This is no different.

Hmmm .. I think this actually is somewhat different ...

for Lily & Holden ... Because they weren't really on board with Jade even staying in the same house with Luke after the bedroom ruse.   As I recall, when Lily found Luke and Jade in bed, she wanted to kick Jade's butt out on the street and call the cops on her as a fraud. (Lily had just been (mistakenly) informed that Jade wasn't Rose's daughter by the folks at the orphanage).   And as for Holden, he was only okay with Jade staying, because Jade told him that she was the answer to curing the gay in Luke. But before this development went any further, Luke fainted during the subsequent session with his parents, and he ended up in the hospital.   By the time Luke was released, Lily had agreed to let Jade stay, but only in the GUEST HOUSE (Cal's old cottage), so Jade was no longer actually in the Lilypad.   And when Jade suggested that Lily was doing this because she didn't want her and Luke having sex under her roof, Lily corrected her and said she didn't want them having sex on her property PERIOD -- 'dem were da' landlord's rules.

Jade as in...

Lukes cousin? I have not been watching all that long, about a year, but I missed him dating his cousin?

Anthony D. Langford's picture

Luke and Jade

At the time, they didn't know they were cousins.  Jade had come to Oakdale pretending to be Rose's daughter.  When it was revealed that she wasn't, she blackmailed Luke into pretending to be her boyfriend or she'd out him so she could stay on the gravy train.  When they found out she really was Rose's daughter, it was a suprise to everyone, including Jade.

Cal's old cottage?

I'm confused.  I remember when Lily bought the Lilypad with Damien's money after finally getting out from under both her mother and Holden.  I didn't remember it being anyone else's house before.

I thought Cal had a large house of his own sort of near Luther's Corners (which would put it six miles away from Lucinda).  And I remember Lila having a house somewhere around there too (or maybe it was after she and Cal shacked up, before she left town for good).

Enlighten me please, since my memory is WAY mixed up on this.

Re: Cal's place

Sorry, I can't help you out with history about Cal or this guesthouse that's referred to as his place, as I've only been watching ATWT regularly since about 2001.   But this is what Lily told Jade:
''You can stay here, on the property.   But not in the main house.  There's a guesthouse.   It's close by, it's comfortable.''
Then, about a week later, when Luke gets home from the hospital, the guesthouse where Jade is now residing is clearly referred to as ''Cal's place'' more than once.   It had to be pretty close to Lily's main house, because Jade can see Luke and his parents arrive home and gets to the front door of the main house even before they enter.  Later, Luke believes he can run over to Cal's, talk to Jade, and get back to the Lilypad during the time it takes Holden to make him hot chocolate.  They actually showed this guesthouse often while Jade was living there.   Maybe you'd recognize it from this clip:

In Fairness to Lily and Holden

Luke and Noah aren't high school students and Noah isn't Luke's cousin/possible grifter.

They've already decided to live together and one can presume that Luke's parents assume that Luke and Noah are sexually active.

I would think you'd have different rules for young adult college students then you would for an underaged high schooler.

I also think that someone's attitude about something can grow and change over time as your kids get older.

I'm not a parent but I could imagine that being the parent of a 20-something is a combination of simultaneously wanting to lock them in their room  to protect them AND wanting to push them out the door so they can learn and grow as people.

Holden seems to embody that parental conflict more than Lily.

"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)

Cal's place redux

I remember hearing them refer to Cal's place a lot, but Cal is Lily's bio-granddad (sort of).  I assumed that she just took charge of the place while he was out of town.  I had no idea that they started calling it their guest house.

I wasn't watching ATWT during most of the first Jade years (every few years I actually work and don't watch daytime tv), so I wasn't familiar with any of this newer history.

It's pretty common for the recent writing staffs to rewrite history to suit their plots.  When Holden was introduced, he described Luther's Corners (home of the Snyder Farm) as being about six miles away from Lucinda's place.  Mike Kasnoff redid his family home in Milltown (which Carly now lives in).  And yet, they all seem to be next door neighbors.

Anthony D. Langford's picture

You're Right..

.... I guess it is different.  But I guess it shows they take the relationship seriously.  I mean, they pretty much treat Noah like a member of the family and not just 'the boyfriend'.

Margo....

.... should be used to having the gay boys do her job.  Second time in a matter of months, isn't it?

Best part today?

Before Luke & Noah ever left the Lilypad, and Noah was going to work.  Luke announces he's going too, and the camera zooms in on his face, which has this little grin that just screams "Nobody's buying this are they?" - Van could kepp from laughing at the situation, barely, but not from smiling.  I'm wondering if that was the 30th take because of it....

Best part for me

Well, besides rough and tough Noah [I knew about the shooting but I wasn't expecting him to go all action-hero] was the look on Luke's face after the shooting.  It was part surprise and part, "Man, Noah, that was hot.  Just wait til I get you home!"

Ditto.

That was my favorite part too!   And we've actually seen our sexy Action Hero before when Noah took a flying dive off that pier in NYC to stealthly board the boat that was speeding away with Winston and his hostage Ameera.

Defft's picture

Flying Dive?

Wasn't that more of an awkward hop?  Or am I thinking of the boat thing with his dad (what is it with Noah and boats)?

Okay .. okay ..

It wasn't a dive .. how 'bout a flying hop? .. lol!   I wouldn't say it was awkward, though .. afterall, the boat was moving.

I really did think Noah went in the water, but you''re right.  I now realize I'm confusing this Noah stunt with Winston's final dive into the river which was amazingly tarzan-like.

Boat Dive

I was actually thinking of when Noah "secretly" got onto the back of the boat that was taking off in New York Harbor.  I think it had Winston and Luke aboard, but all these speedy micro-plots (that use far too many of the same elements) confuse me and I can't keep them straight any more.

BTW--Love your Avatar pic.  Is that one of the Beautiful Bottoms Brothers?

Channing Capwell Jr.'s picture

Same scene

We're basically talking about the same scene. ..lol!  Noah 'hopping' from the pier onto the back of the boat happened at the end of one episode with Winston diving from the same boat into the warter occurring the next day.

(I sent you an email about my avatar.)

Jinkies!

Nuke have thwarted: A campus drug-dealer,  United States immigration agents, a crooked homophobic landlord, a bi-curious grandfather, a set of whack job blackmailing 'twins', a crazy colonel and now an Italian gun-runner. Lets not even mention their bit-part in the awesomely bad "Gwen's Evil Fan" Branson adventure...

Maybe next they will get mixed up with Old Man Jenkins at The Haunted Oakdale Carnival!

Margo

Please either give this actress a storyline or stop writing crap for her.
Anthony D. Langford's picture

Margo....

.... she actually does have a storyline coming up.  It starts in a couple weeks.
Defft's picture

Let me guess

It involves one of her kids screwing up again.  Or maybe Adam comes back with a completely different personality (again!).  Or she has an affair (again!).

Wouldn't it be nice if she went to a detective training school and learned how to do her job?  Or maybe got funding for a lobby for the police department so that the general public can't just waltz into the interrogation room/holding cell?  Or maybe they will actually get another cop (remember when Oakdale had more than two?).  Is there a DA in Oakdale anymore?

Gack--I'm depressing myself.  This show has really turned into utter dreck.
