Los Angeles station refuses to run PSA supporting gay families during the Super Bowl, blames NFL
Not too long ago we wrote about a Los Angeles ABC affiliate refusing to air a PSA promoting understanding of gay couples and families from the group GettoKnowUsFirst.org during President Obama's inauguration, deeming it "too controversial". Now it seems that the same PSA was refused by Los Angeles NBC affiliate KNBC during the Super Bowl, who claim that the spot was turned down by the NFL on grounds of being "advocacy". Oddly, the NFL okayed several other PSAs on topics like tobacco and steroid use to be shown on the network. Get the whole story over at GLAAD. And check out this ad and others at GettoKnowUsFirst.org. So just to recap: Punching koalas in the face, OK. Crystal balls to the nuts, OK. Women showering on webcams, OK. Two men raising their children, REJECTED. And BTW, what is up, LA? Sheesh... Submitted by on Mon, 2009-02-02 13:13. |

Embarrassing
First, the majority of voters in Los Angeles County voted YES on Prop 8, much to the shock and embarrassment of our large local gay community.
Now, after the disheartening blunders and resulting lip-service by these two local affiliates, I'm ready to breakup with my city.
But I guess good boyfriends stay and work it out.
If others want to help our relationship, they can write:

These are beautiful 30 second ads that promote marriage equality and families.
I applaud your willingness to not give up on LA. My state (NC) is no where near as progressive as CA but believe a right given and then unfairly taken away causes activism.
In the meantime I will continue to support this cause, via facebook and other platforms, and eventually the whole country will be on board.
