Mass Effect game not down with man-on-male-alien romance?

We came across a story recently about hotly anticipated video game Mass Effect and how it's caused a bit of a stir for featuring brief "breast nudity" and allowing female characters at one point to have implied relationships with other females. Granted, they're humanoid alien females, but these are PT days we're living in (Post-Torchwood), after all, so that's really neither here nor there.

We saw no mention of similar options being available for male-male same-sex romance (if your character is male, your choices in the situation mentioned are to get busy with a female human or female humanoid alien), so we asked the reps for the game what the deal was.

Their initial response was this:

"Mass Effect takes a very mature approach to the various relationships amongst characters throughout the game. Gamers can expect a number of different scenarios to play out depending upon the type of customized character they choose to create."

When we noted that this answer disregarded our specific question, they declined to elaborate, which seems a rather bad sign for gay gamers out there who would like to get a little frisky with male humanoid aliens or what-not (and people tired of gaming double-standards in general).

Which would be a shame, because that character pictured above? Totally pings the gaydar. We'll keep you posted if we learn more.
