Neil Patrick Harris on Ellen
Neil Patrick Harris -- who has been notably quiet since his succinct coming out in November -- stopped by Ellen to talk specifically about his sexuality and the reasons that he chose to came out. Harris presented an image of a very well-adjusted, thoughtful, and most importantly, happy gay man. He also looked quite sharp in that suit.
Harris noted that he chose to come out in order to avoid his sexuality being associated with anything that could be misconstrued as being "scandalous" or secretive -- when the media speculation started, he spoke out and nipped things in the bud. Most of the conversation is covered in this story that hit People shortly before the interview, but the best comment was his happy ending:
"For me that is the greatest ending to the story so far – that nothing really has changed at all," he says. "I'm doing nothing different and people aren't behaving differently towards me. ... People heard and they're like yeah, and? That attitude, I think, was great."
His subsequent silence was also likely a wise move, in retrospect -- the flurry of activity around his coming out has settled, and now he's just a guest talking about his journey from a very calm place.
What do you think? Is Harris's appearance on Ellen and his recent guest spots on Regis and Kelly (not to mention rumors that his sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, may be on its way out) an indicator that he might be looking to start his own show? And if he did, would you watch?
