Neil Patrick Harris to host TV Land Awards

We tend to be of the mind that out actor Neil Patrick Harris hasn't met a challenge he couldn't handle. The guy can act, sing, dance, bend spoons and make Saturday Night Live funny.

Now it looks like NPH will be able to add "Golden Girl wrangler" to his resume, as the child-star-made-good has been tapped to host the ninth annual TV Land Awards.

The spoofy awards show honors television past and present and has maintained a fairly camp sensibility over the years, so Neil feels like a perfect fit. And really, if the guy can host magic awards and Emmy announcements and make them seem cool, dusting off some clips from Mr. Belvedere and surviving an attack from Charlotte Rae should be no problem.

The TV Land Awards will be held on April 19th and will run the following week on the network. And, in case you missed NPH's visit to Ellen yesterday, you can check out his new, less-decapitatey magic trick from the show right here.

That's mainstreaming!

Seriously, I mean what's the average age of a TVLand viewer? 58, 60?  And we've got an out gay man hosting?  I love NPH, and he slots well into anything (HIMYM last night was an amazing Barney episode), but if acceptance is really a generational thing, as it's seeming to be more and more these days, this is pretty cool.  Just like Ellen beaming into homes everyday, these things show how far we've come in a short period of time.  The only sad thing is that hosts don't generally do the Red Carpet, so we probably don't get to see Neil and David arrive for this.  Here's to hoping for some funny Doogie skits though.
