Meet the other gay actor playing a new gay character on "One Life to Live"

Seriously, did someone set off a gay bomb at One Life to Live? Hot on the tail of out actor (and local favorite, from what I can tell) Scott Evans stepping up the role of gay character Fish opposite Kyle (Brett Claywell) we're getting casting scoop the legacy soap has just cast another gay actor to play another gay role related to the Kyle/Fish storyline.

Meet Nicholas Rodriguez, who will play Nick (starting August 14th), another gay character that will be involved in the budding gay couple's story.

For more spoilery details (and another pic), continue along below...

From what we hear, Nick will be dating Kyle, which serves to get Fish jealous enough to realize his love for Kyle and get them together. Nick will be a short-term arc aimed at getting the two long-term players into one another's arms.

We don't know much about Rodriguez other than that he's gay and has been in a bunch of stage shows in NY and LA. For more pics of the fella, head on over here.

I'm so loving this story on OLTL

I think OLTL is doing a great job so far with the Fish/Kyle story; I know there were rumors that TPTB were going to bring back a legacy character as gay to immediately throw a wrench in Fish & Kyle's budding romance, but I'm actually relieved that this is just a short term distraction. Let's see Kish realize their love and passion for each other, settle down a bit, THEN throw a third wheel at them.

I wonder if this will spur ATWT...

...to actually be interesting?

Nicholas Rodriguez

Just a few words about Nick: He's a terrific singer-actor who made his Broadway debut in the title role of ''Tarzan.'' He's played Lun Tha opposite Lou Diamond Phillips in ''The King and I'' and he co-starred with Adam Lambert in ''Ten Commandments: The Musical,'' subbing many times for its star, Val Kilmer. Most recently, Nick was a knockout singing ''Just in Time'' at ''The Leading Men IV'' benefit for Broadway Cares, and from July 1-19, he's appearing in the Off-Broadway musical ''The Toxic Avenger.''

What gay storyline?

I've been watching OLTL for the past two weeks and nothing I see suggests Kyle and Fish are gay or have a past relationship. Fish went on a date with his female roommate and Kyle just had a passing scene in the park and at the gym with Fish. None of these scenes screems gay to me.

If I didn't know there was a gay storyline I would just see them as two characters who see each other in passing. None of their lines suggest a romantic past relationship and when Fish told Kyle in the gym that he went out with whats-her-name, Kyle more or less patted him on the back in that straight guy way saying "yeah she's beautiful".

This does not sound gay to me. Even when I was growing up and "in the closet" I never commented on any girl's appearance to another guy. I never even noticed girls let alone pretened to be attracted to them.

So far with what I have seen of OLTL there is no gay story or subtext for that matter.

It's magnificently subtle

It's very subtle, but it's very there. Personally, I think this is good example of why OLTL is considered one of the best soaps on the air: the dialogue and acting is a rich study in subtlety and ambiguity.

If you read spoilers, you watch with a heightened sense of expectation; if you don't read spoilers, you should still be able to pick up on "something"--audiences already were BEFORE the story was announced.

It's clear by the way Fish and Kyle interact that something went down between them--when Kyle deliberately calls Fish by his first name (Oliver), getting a rise out of him; Kyle snarkily commenting on Fish dating Layla. And Kyle's interaction with Gigi last week surely gave the audience signals: "I don't play women" and "Baby, there's nothing you have to offer that would possibly interest me!"

Due to the exemplary writing and acting on OLTL, I am ALREADY more invested in Kish than I ever was in 2 years of Nuke on ATWT!

So when the girl threw herself at Kyle...

...and he said "Baby, I seriously doubt there is anything you have that would interest me."...right after he tried to show her the door, that wasn't a little telling to you?

The tension between Fish abd Kyle that goes beyond the "crime"...that's not hinting anything to you?

I think you need things to be too obvious. This story is getting good and it's unfolding in a very interesting way.

EDIT: Joseph...for some strange reason your reply wasn't showing up for me...I didn't mean to repeat what you said.

I see the subtext

I stopped watching OLTL, but I've catching up because of Fish and Kyle. People were talking about something going on between them even before the show made it official that it was a "gay" storyline.  I definitely see subtext there. Kyle commented on Layla's looks in a taunting manner. Fish's reaction is not one of being told your date is hot. The two have constantly referenced a past relationship  and Fish's "don't call me that" when Kyle called him Oliver showed they had a more intimate relationship. Layla even commented in the park that something was going on between them.
