Each Tuesday we take a look at the week's DVD releases and pass unsolicited judgement on them. There's not much on the slate for Tuesday, March 20th, but here are a few points of interest.
Eragon Nothing gay about it, but this campfest features lots of ridiculous hair, men in tights, and scenery-gnawing. Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and Robert Carlyle somehow got roped into this sorry adaptation of the hit fantasy book, and lead blondie Eragon (Edward Speleers) is tousled within an inch of his life -- the rubberneck factor might be enough to make this fun for some folks.
Maude - The First Season Alpha Golden Girl Bea Arthur's crowning achievement was a spinoff of All in the Family that brought women's lib into the living rooms of America (and introduced the world to Adrienne Barbeau). The show -- which ran for six seasons and gave Arthur an Emmy win in 1977 -- tackled issues like abortion, women in politics, and other hot-button issues of the time, all met with Maude's trademark wit. Maude didn't tackle gay issues until season three in 1974, so hopefully more seasons are forthcoming.
If you're not familiar with the show, this clip of the opening titles and accompanying song should pretty much seal the deal:
The second season of Sleeper Cell...
Thanks!
