Pictorial tribute to "Supermodel" fan-fave Jonathan Waud
Many of us were crushed to learn that Jonathan Waud, the one half of the only reason to watch this season of Make Me a Supermodel, did not catwalk away with the prize. (The other half, Sandhurst, didn't win either.) No, pouty d-bag Branden won the big paycheck, but the statuesque construction worker from the UK (by way of LA) did take the fan favorite prize, which should be little surprise to anyone who tuned into the show and found himself instantly captivated by the soft-spoken blonde stunner. Truth be told, I stopped watching about a month ago, so Jonathan could have been revealed to be a serial killer in the semi-finals and I'd be none the wiser. And with these pics to remember him by, I'll remain happily in the dark. Enjoy! (Note: Some pics mildly NSFW in a "perfect pooper" sort of way)

I have never watched
That show but im compelled to comment on the last pic, it looks photoshopped with in a inch of its very exsistance!
Not to mention it just makes his body look weird...
Suppose its "arty" just not in a good way.
you missed a bit of a shift
Not in Jonathan, but in Branden. The kid's 18. He both grew up a lot and, oddly enough, recaptured some of the youthful innocence that he seemed ot lack in the early episodes. One thing was clear in the final episode, all three of them were supermodels and all three will have very successful careers.
Through both seasons I've been underwhelmed by the female models. I think they really got the three best possible people in the final and featured each of them and their stories really well.
Bravo for Homophobia
Horrible Season 2 in every way
Not So Fast
If as a kid you were molested by a man the it's not surprising you would grow up with the attitude that "any man who might be interested in me sexually is bad news", and given his looks he's bound to attract a lot of interest. I see nothing intentionally nasty in what Branden said and however uncomfortable he may have been he was able to push through it and do what was required right from the first episode. Hopefully his time on Supermodel will have put him more at ease with gay men, otherwise I imagine he's in for an uncomfortable time in the modelling world.
It's was mentioned a few times that Branden was raised only by his mother and with no male role model, so I wouldn't be suprised if he worries about whether he is (or is seen as) sufficiently manly. He made such a big deal of the whole "love the ladies" thing in the first episode thatit seemed to me there was a bit of over-compensation going on.
My only interest
When they took the voting away, and a lot of the personal stories, in the beginning of this season I quit watching. But the only one who looked like he could be a supermodel to me was Jonathan. He had the body, the face, and the presence.
I'm completely disappointed to hear that Branden won, with his homophobia (at least at the beginning that I saw - and over the 4-6 weeks of competition, I don't think it likely that he changed much. Few people change that fast.). Youth only excuses so much, and the youth of today are generally more evolved and progressive, while Branden seemed regressive - perfect date for Carrie Prejean.
agreement
Male supermodels?
This show is an example of
I wasn't happy
I watched every episode, and the judges were frequently falling over themselves about Jonathan. They kept saying that he could find work already, and guest judges would say that they saw giant dollar signs when they saw him, etc. I think they just gave it to Branden beause he started out as such a crap model that his improvement impressed them, whereas Jonathan was great to begin with.
Also, they had him doing truly BS things (as you can see from the photos: rollerskating? Jumping with fish? Wearing neon hot pants?). When he was allowed to work his look (the classic, James Bond sort of thing), he rocked.

Glad I am not alone on this.
I feel better now. I am apparently not the only person in the TV audience that is pissed off at the obvious playing of some kind of game with Supermodel. How could they have chosen that flat assed, doughy middled, flat chested boy with only one facial expression over two such hot and talented models as Sandhurst and Jonathan?
I am reluctant to play discrimination cards, but there has to be some kind of it going on. They eliminated the audience vote so they could choose who they wanted and ignore all the obvious talents of the contestants. While I agree there were NO super women on this season, from the beginning there were two winners and it was simply a matter of choosing between J and S. So, they picked niether? Dumb.
And, yes; the comment about the absurd situations and costumes is valid. So are some of the selections made along the way. They would ignore some DYNAMITE shots and choose some dippy ones just for dramatic effect. Salome was the worst built of all the women and she kept getting selected...by whom? By one of the show regulars. Then, after the models pictures were not selected...by the regulars...the regulars then held the models responsible for poses THEY DID NOT CHOOSE OR WANT.
I fear Supermodel has lost it's mind and it's audience all in one season. The inside game-playing, probably intended to boost ratings, instead showed them off to be about as bright as the General Motors executives in knowing what their product is and how it affects customers.
I was so disappointed.
Many reality shows that involve competition always favor
I was a Jon Superfan...
But I am totally cool with Branden winning this competition. People may find him doughy, flat-assed and ugly (I personally think he's quite handsome but that's besides the point)--the fact is, he does have the look that the higher end fashion industry craves when it comes to models which is well, pale, flat, and non-conventional. Not to mention that in an industry where youth is a huge part of the longevity of one's career, being 18 leaves him in a much better position than 27-year-old Jonathan.
As far as his "homophobia", I think people are trying too hard to make this an issue. It was brought up in the beginning to play a role in building his overall story for the viewers--he begins as a cocky, hypermasculine, typical teenager, which serves not only to illustrate the fact that he is still very much immature and young, but the fact that he is still extremely insecure with himself, especially with the fact that hasn't had a male role model in his life. His ego is inflated when he starts off with good photos, and then bam--the judges pull the rug out from under him when they call him out on his ego and nearly boot him. From there, I think it's clear to anyone who watched that he began to really, visibly change. Branden went from the cocky jerk to the crier of the season--there were more waterworks from him alone than all the female models combined. He became more comfortable with being emotional, more willing to open up, and he clearly began to mature, especially thanks to his friendships with Jonathan and Sandhurst--in the finale, he broke down when the judges questioned him about the struggles of growing up without a mother, and it was his competitors who came to his side and helped him to pull himself together. In the end, Branden was named the winners and the editors had a beautifully crafted storyline on their hands about the boy who grew into a man. The show is MAKE Me a Supermodel, and Branden is the one who was truly made.
And as for his first shoot where his homophobic comments were made, I would just like to point out that as a gay man, I would be given the heebie jeebies as well if I were told I had to be intimate with Creepy Chris. I also like how (surprise!) there was no backlash against the equally, if not more outright discriminatory comments made by gay contestant Shawn in the first episode. When he introduced himself to the group, the first thing out of his mouth was that he was married to a man and that he doesn't hang out with straight people, "So be nice to me, Straighties!" WTF?
(Oh, and whoever it was who said he was molested as a child needs to check their facts, because I don't recall them mentioning anything of that magnitute, and that's a pretty big thing to forget so easily.)
Agreement! I was totally rooting for Branden.
I agree with everything you said, but I'd also like to add that I didn't see the first 3/4 of the season, I only caught the last few episodes. Branden just seemed like such a sweet, sincere individual who was crazy and full of personality and when it comes down to it, yeah, his body and his look is what's hot right now. He learned how to work it and that's why he won.
I personally thought Jonathon was kind of a jerk. He kind of got arrogant and cocky there at the end and I think he knew that he had a classic body, classic look, great face yadda yadda. He rocked his photos and was great, but he didn't impress the Cosmo EIC, which was also a big strike against him. Idk, I didn't really like him, and I think he'll be fine geting work and getting out there, but I think that his look isn't as popular right now as Branden's is.
As far as Sandhurst goes, I don't really think he ever wanted it quite as much as the other two. He was awesome, especially in his last few shots, but he def doesn't have the body of a model - he's too muscled - and he really only needed some excellent photos to get himself out there. He'll be fine.
So. I think the right one won.
Obviously alone here but ...
It should have been Jonathan
But the edit was subtly favoring Branden. While they focused on Jonathan's family as a reason, that was one-note compared to the full-ranged attack that was "Crown Branden" campaign. No wonder they took out the voting since Branden would probably have been voted out early.
I knew Jonathan wouldn't win when Tyson was and that ass Perou (who also fucked up big time with the UK version) was harping on Jonathan having one look. Please, Tyson, show them your book in the 90's and let's talk about having one look.
And yes, Branden was more suited for high fashion than anything else but I would think that Jonathan would have a better career than Branden. And that's the final revenge on these stupid judges.
If it weren't for Kathy Griffin...
Going Against The Crowd
I was ok with it....
I watched every episode. Branden totally grew on me as the season progressed. Jonathan, yeah, stunning body but I didn't find him attractive. He has ZERO sexual vibes and was constantly whining about money. Sandhurst is YUM and a fantastic person. They'll all do well if they find the right niche, but Branden is just right for the current market. Truth be told, I LURVED Colin, who was eliminated earlier. He had the best personality and is smart and totally adorable.
No Male Supermodels?
What does that make Jeff Aquilon, Mark Vanderloo, Sin Jin Smith, Tom Hintenhaus, Eric Nies, or even Marky Mark, and good ole Tom Selleck? All it really takes to be a supermodel is for an obscure face to become recognizable by name, Anyone can be trained to perform the skills that these shows create as challenges. It isn't like these guys had to beat out Larry King, Rush Limbaugh, or a bunch of average Joes to win the title. They now all have recognizable names and a fan base, so in that sense they are all winners. What happens next is anyone's guess, and a big who cares.
It is not like their beauty makes a contribution to people's lives. Then, again who would tune into "Who Wants to be America's Next Top Brain Surgeon?", even if they were all good looking. As if that is why you would choose a brain syrgeon.Who among us doesn't feel a twinge of "less than" because we aren't that perfect. All they do is make make clothes look good and spawn body image issues.
Who will remember most of these guys in a few years, even some of the winners? Can you name Miss America of 1968? 1973? 1981? 2002? none of whom would have made it as haute coture models. Most of these guys are not any gayer than the larger population. And looks are certainly not any indication of how good they are in the sack.
That's all I am saying...
