Pop! Quiz: Do you have your own blog?
There have been a lot of market research studies lately about online behavior, and the common findings for the past few years have been fairly consistent in that LGBT folk have been much quicker on the uptake when it comes to adopting new media (blogs, social networking sites, online video, etc.). But a recent poll's finding that one in five gays in the U.S. has their own blog took even me (who lives and breathes pixels, by this point) by surprise. I knew a lot of folks that visit and comment on AfterElton have blogs dedicated to interests ranging from cult movies to Stevie Nicks to heaven knows what else (and we love you for it, natch), but 20% of gay folks in general? That's pretty awesome. Anyway, it made me curious: How many of you folks have your own blog? And if you have one, what's it about. You? Entertainment? Politics? Let us know in the poll below, and feel free to drop a comment with a link to your blog, so we can all enjoy. Submitted by on Fri, 2008-05-09 09:08. |

It's a blog of all things "SNICKS". (i'm not sure what that means, but it sounds better than "random crap").

Boblawblaw's law Blog
Aside from writing here on AE, I do have my own blog where I go by "Ducky" (in honor of my favorite 80s character Duckie Dale from Pretty In Pink). It's a good amount of personal interjected into my TV blog.

I'm a dork.
My blog
Movies are my passion, so I write a lot about that. Also, hot men. Discussion of my favorite gay characters. I don't update it as often as I should.

All of the above
Where's the option for "I have a blog about my life AND pop culture AND politics AND specialized topics when appropriate"?

Same here, unless
Same here, unless LiveJournal isn't considered a "blog."

I think LJ is a blog as much as any other blog.
A friend of mine, who was on LJ a while before I was, recently moved over to WordPress to have a "real blog," but I don't see why LJ -isn't- a real blog. I suppose that LJ is, in a sense, a Social Network, but is, mostly, a blogging platform. Not sure what definition of blog, LJ doesn't fit. :)
Anyway, I too blog - mine is just personal ramblings about life, entertainment, politics, and other crap: http://timbond.livejournal.com
I will agree that "microblogging" might not really be blogging, but I do "microblog" at http://twitter.com/timbond
It depends...

And I concur with others that there should be a choice for a combination of those things. Not everyone is uber-specialized. I typically blog about entertainment and pop-culture, but sometimes I relate it to my life. Also, politics and current events, even sports, aren't off the table for me, but I really haven't focused on much in those areas yet.

Good heavens you people are multitaskers!
:)
Added an option for multiple blogs, thanks for suggesting!
I've been at it for a while

Since the TV network upfronts are my Super Bowl (and they're next week) TV's been a heavy focus for me of late, tho I'll go on about cooking and comics sometimes, too.

Hell, I have two blogs.

The ups and dows of blogging.
I started a blog not too long go as I had been figuring out were to write about certain news subjects that interest me or show PG-13+ imagery that may not be quite right for AE or other websites that I contribute to professionally or as a community member.
It's coming along very slowly as there are so many technical issues, strategic objectives, and even a little bit of second guessing as I love to write but it does leave me feeling a little exposed to have it "out there." I am also contemplating sharing the venue it with other writers to see if it can be more a more fun place to visit with several voices at the helm.
Thanks to all who have visited the site. I welcome all your suggetions and comments as any success owes a great deal to this site.
While I hate to bring attention to a person who craves it for all the wrong reasons, I could not talk about blogs without addressing a recent issue that I had never had to deal with before: offensive commentary.
Evan may be banned from leaving comments on this forum, but that does not prevent him from shadowing everyone here as he left two offensive posts on my blog rehashing all the hatred that got him what he deserved and somehow correlating my recent absence of the past week with his not being around. His interest in me is a little disturbing but he had it coming with with repugnant attack on a Dave.
While I could care less about Evan per se, I am using this week's experience to remind all to simply be mindful of what you disclose here and in your respective blogs as there are some who may try use that information to intimidate. Evan has used false email addresses to leave very nasty comments on my blog, but I am working with the site runners using IP addresses. The first 6 IP numbers from Evan's attacks have always been the same so I am just turning over all the evidence to allow them to investigate and they will give me several options on how to address the matter. But enough on the downside
Keep on blogging folks. I love Pamela Sue Martin and kitty wigs, esp. if they are wearing glasses too :-) If anyone cares about my junk, I'll be back in 5 days or so with my usual nonsense.

Guillermo, are you suggesting..
that our dear evan might be a bit...unhinged?
I don't know how typepad works, but on blogspot, you can choose to have comments moderated before they're published. That's what i had to a couple of years ago when someone was trying to "evan" me.

More blogging surprises
I had a much bigger surprise waiting that served as the impetus to write a first-hand account of what I see as blatant homophobia in the online advertising community.

My blog is my lifeline
I'm hundreds of miles away from most of my friends, so I spend many many hours blogging. I agree with the people who say that not all LJ are blogs; of course not, if you don't write in it. Actually, I have my regular journal in which I talk about myself and all my pop culture/fandom/current events type interests; and then I have a second Livejournal that I use for fanfic. I wouldn't count that as a blog, though.
I've had other blogs at Xanga and Blogspot and Vox, but I decided it was pointless to spread myself so thin.
I'm now a blog addict
I keep a blog for my Law & Sexuality class at Sunderland Uni in the UK. It can be viewed at: http://lawandsexuality.blogspot.com/
I thought it was interesting the way the poll broke down (at the time of writing, 34% our life, pop/entertainment 15%, current afairs 7% and sport 0%). Not that we are sterotypes or anything...lol. So first we love ourselves, then Kylie or Madonna (or Kevein and Scotty), then Obama (or Hillary if you're unhinged) and none of us love sport which if we re-defined as pleasurable physical activity would I suspect leap up the resutls table :-)
