Pop! Quiz: How much would you pay to see Madonna?
The other day in the middle of a conversation with a friend I had an unfamiliar experience: I had sticker shock on someone else's behalf. See, my friend had just revealed to me that he paid what he considered to be a steal for a ticket to see Madonna at Madison Square Garden. The ticket cost? $180. Not even taking into consideration the fact that I wouldn't turn around to see Madonna, that's a preposterous amount of money to pay to see someone whose life and various faces have received more coverage than the Iraq War. Is there really anything more to see? I see plenty of live music and I think $50 (which I paid to see Feist recently) is even a bit much to ask for ninety minutes of pop music in venue overpacked with paying patrons (that said, Feist was amazing and totally worth suffering the drunk people next to me and the Dutch tourist who kept kicking the back of my seat). Has my indie rock upbringing jaded me on big-ticket shows, or is Madonna really as much of a money-grubbing Planet Eater as I think she is? Submitted by on Thu, 2008-06-19 14:41. |

i think she is waayyyyy over-rated..er, maybe back in the day i could understand...but lately, i just feel sort of embarrassed for her.
just retire already. her and oprah together.
I'd probably turn around,
I'd probably turn around, but I wouldn't cross the street.
That said, I paid more then that to see Leonard Cohen last week. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
and the sad things is . . .
Shoot
I once paid $250 for a ticket. And I'd do it again!!! But this time, I didn't because I got tix at the regular price. Hate her all you want. She's built it. And we WILL come.
what's with all this Madonna
Maybe for her last tour.
I would have paid up to $200 to see her in her Confessions Tour. But this new album isn't really my cup of tea, so nope.

Madonna who?
Cyndi Lauper: yeah, that's the ticket ...
The real question is how much would you pay ME
Madonna shape-shifting into--yikes!--Joan Rivers!

Madonna is a classy lady with a lot of business savvy. She has built a career on a lot less talent than, say, Cyndi Lauper, and I applaud her success. But lately I've been afraid she's turning into Joan Rivers, right before our eyes. She looked great in the "Four Minutes" video except when she was paired with Justin Timberlake; then she just looked creaky. (The picture of her and Iggy on your blog could almost be before and after pictures!) Joan Rivers! I wouldn't wish that on, well, Joan Rivers!

I have been a fan for 25 years now, but have never been to a concert, so the S&S will be my first time. I paid $400.00 each for my son, spouse and self, and would have paid more if it took that. My father used to say,"if you want something bad enough then it's worth whatever you pay for it"! I want this bad, LOL. My son told me I owe him this since he had Madonna crammed down his ears for the last 20 years( all his life, he he he) Anyway, I can't wait to see my Queen of Pop, live! YEA!!!!!!!!!!!
$180
I only paid 75 for my seat in Oakland. Of course, I'll have to fly to get there, but still. That's about what I paid to see Tori Amos, not much more than a usual big ticket concert.
If you insist on having great seats you have to pay a big price.
