Queers for Fears: Halloween horror movie video blog

That's right, folks: I, too, have hopped aboard the videoblogging bandwagon (although it's more of a haunted hayride in this case) for a Halloween horror movie special.

In this Queers for Fears spooktacular, my boyfriend Andy and I highlight a few fun horror flicks that have special places in the hearts and gizzards of gay fans and celebrate the upcoming holiday in the most traditional of fashions: by making total asses of ourselves.

Enjoy the bloody good time after the jump!

Great post, guys

And you're both adorable.

But you forgot an amazingly gay flick - "Nightmare on ELm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge." Freddy Krueger terrorizes a teenaged boy this time - which is queer enough. The her, "Jesse," is feminine or androgynous; he does a dance routine in his bedroom and shrieks like any good horror heroine. Then there's the male gym teacher that appears in full SM attire and gets whipped in the locker room showers. Really, the whole movie is about a boy wrestling with this weird and powerful urge inside him...

I agree with Tony. I'm a

I agree with Tony. I'm a Freddy kinda guy and Part 2, although different from the other ones, is very gayish.

Brian and Andy, I love your vlog and you two are a very hot couple. ;)
As an horror fan it is very nice to have more suggestions for my Halloween viewing. Thanks! :)

I'm looking forward to your next vlog.. that is if Andy didn't suck you dry Brian ;)

Freddy's Gay Revenge

Thanks for the kind feedback, guys. And yes, FR is the Gayest Horror Movie Ever Made, but it really demands a deeper discussion, as it's all glorious subtext. (We stuck to movies with gay characters or actors.) I could spend an hour alone discussing that gym teacher's jump-rope fetish! Glad to see that it's got loyal fans -- definitely one of my faves.

We'll have more horror goodies tomorrow as well... mwuahahahaha...

Great vlog!

Excellent, excellent!

But I am curious to know the story of how you happen to own that scary mask...

Read my books! Explore "Brent's Brain" at http://www.brenthartinger.com

Which one?

Thanks, first of all - glad you enjoyed, especially as you and Michael have become quite a tough act to follow! The Phantom mask Andy had made by a friend of ours who does costumes for Wicked on Broadway, for his Halloween costume last year. And the Jason hockey mask ... well, it actually arrived via stripper. Long story.

The Fan...

...is awesome! My best friend, Doug, who is a huge Bacall fan (hmm.) introduced me to this so-bad-it's-hilarious film.

My favorite quote: "Dear Bitch, Now you know how accessible you are. How'd you like to be f***ed with a meat cleaver?"

Great job on the vlog! Looking forward to more.

(Hey, I just hit 1000 points with this post!)

You know...

That specific line was deleted from the recent DVD release? Have you ever read the book it's based on? Very different ending, and quite effective stuff. Might be a good stocking stuffer for Mr. Breen -- er, Doug!

I actually do have the book...

...in paperback, but it's been years since I've read it; I'll have to check it out again.

Awesome Video

Andy and Brian are a cute couple.  You two put a lot of effort in to the video and you know so much about the subject.  I really enjoyed it.

These vlogs have completely dispelled my assumptions about what the writers are like.  I thought Brian would be a quiet, eccentric carpenter type.  He's pretty normal though.

I'm a Halloween fan.  The music for the first movie is the scariest of all horror movies, imo.

Stephen

Hmmm, I think I had a bit of a crush back on Stephen Geoffreys back in the day (he is just a bit older than I am).  I loved him in "Fright Night" and a few other things he appeared in at that time; an episode of "Amazing Stories," for example.  His career really did get off to a promising start---I can't help but wonder why on earth he went into porn shortly afterwards!  At any rate, the latest news is that he's trying to get back into more mainstream work.  I believe his last porn film was a good five years ago.  (I've never seen any of them, but I have to admit, I am a bit curious...)

That was a great v-blog!

Check out these movies also...Brotherhood, Night Shadow (short film), Jeepers Creepers 2 (one of the characters is alluded to being gay, I think he is), October Moon, Covenant, Leeches is pretty gay. I'm sure you guys have seen it but the classic/original version of Amityville Horror...James Brolin walking around in tighty whities. The Wolves of Kromer (horror lite, way gay), not really anything gay about it but I love The Fog (both versions although it's fun to say the name Adrienne Barbeau).

And of course...Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror (Trailer 2).

Oh yeah...

Someone mentioned Jeepers Creepers 2, and the first one is pretty gay, too. Though it is mostly subtext... the male monster, for example, tracks the brother and sister by sniffing the boy's dirty underwear!

Plus, it's really creepy.

hugely entertaining

Jeez, you dudes are tall!  Or do you just live in a very low-ceilinged apartment?

Seriously, you and Andy were made for Vblogging. très cute and nicely done.

Your reviews over at Camp Blood are indispensable.  Watched Hostel 2 last night, and you were right on the money!

Happy Pumpkin carving/slashing/smashing day.

Vamp...

...is pretty gay. Anything with Grace Jones in it usually is, and she's decked out in head-to-toe Keith Haring...hallo!

Aside from that, there's an almost tangible homoerotic undertone that permeates throughout this vampire schlock. Chris Makepeace ("Wudy the Wabbit" from Meatballs) and 80's hottie Robert Russler have this 'gay-ish' thing going on. Rusler becomes a half-vampire, tells Wudy he loves him and asks if they can still be friends. It seemed to me to be an allegory for coming out.

Of course most vampire flicks are pretty faggy, so...
