Quinceañera headed for the poco screen?

The delightful John Polly over at Logo's NewNowNext scored quite a scoop at this past Monday's GLAAD Awards ceremony: it seems that the folks behind award-winning gay flick Quinceañera are bringing their multiculti coming-of-age story to the small screen, courtesy of ABC Family.

Here's a snippet from Polly's chat with Wash Westmoreland, who co-directed the film with partner Richard Glatzer:

Westmoreland said that he and Glatzer are working with ABC Family to turn the movie -- about a Latino family living in L.A.'s Echo Park neighborhood -- into a series for the generally wholesome channel. "They're being great," explained Westmoreland, "in fact they're encouraging us to be edgy and true to our story." So, yes, it sounds like you can expect to see the young gay Latino male character of Carlos (played by Jesse Garcia) looking for man-on-man love (or some version of it) on the TV show.

Pretty progressive stuff for a family channel, right? For more (including what's happening with the predatory gay couple from the film), head on over to the full story.
