The true victims of Prop 8: Michael Rappaport on "gay alimony"

FunnyorDie has another gay marriage video up, this one from comedian and actor Michael Rappaport (you might remember that he had a pretty interesting gay storyline on his sitcom The War at Home a while back).

The joke here is pretty edgy ... does it work for you?

If You Know Him

If you are familiar with Michael Rappaport and his comedy style / personality, yes it works. If  you aren't familiar with him, it may not work as well.

War at Home

I loved The War at Home when it was on (hey, Fox, can we have that back instead of Sit Down, Shut Up?), and hated to see it go.  When I saw this earlier today, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but had to admit it was creative.  And actually, I kind of liked the humor, I just didn't understand why we had to endure the endlist list of credits at the beginning of the piece.  That could be why I didn't find it that funny - if that's part of his schitck, then I guess it fits.  I don't know his stand up, so I just thought it took away from the actual joke.

He was in War at Home ;^)

I think he listed his credits because there's not a lot of people that know who he is. If they knew then War at Home would still be on the telly.

*is slow*

nothing wrong with this piece, except me....sometimes it takes me a while to get a joke....so this would be one of those times.

he's ranting how his wife is gay and he has to pay gay alimony. ok....?

WHAT? is there a double meaning in this? is he making fun of how 'gay' alimony is in the first place? is he saying that if his ex wife or something got married to a woman, he wouldn't have to pay alimony?

yes, i am stupid. i will wait for someone to explain the message.

It's the: "is he saying

It's the: "is he saying that if his ex wife or something got married to a woman, he wouldn't have to pay alimony?" bit. Basically, if his wife could marry her lesbian partner, he wouldn't have to give her money anymore. But Prop 8 stopped that.

The joke itself is funny, but the manner in which it was told, not so much.

It works

Some may not get it because it requires them to understand what he is doing.

The best part was the PCC

The best part was the PCC streetcar at the beginning.

I thought it was great.

It was great

I think you have to be familiar with his work to know that this is supposed to be funny. I laughed the whole way through it.

I have no idea who that guy

I have no idea who that guy is (I haven't watched any of the media he lists at the beginning) but it was pretty easy for me to understand the joke.  I thought he made a great point.

I loved this actually. "Prop

I loved this actually. "Prop 8: don't watch movies?"

Not terribly good

I guess the joke was ok, but the delivery was kind of long and not as funny.  I didn't laugh the first time he said "gay alimony," but if I had, I doubt I still would have been after the fifth and sixth times :)

I just loved the Gaythering Storm video on FunnyOrDie though.
