Rosie's out (the door), won't be back ABC has announced that Rosie O'Donnell will not be coming back after her break to finish out her run on The View. Rosie had three weeks left in her contract, but the two are parting ways early, which seems like a good idea given the friction both on-camera and off (reportedly) as of late. From the statement issued by Brian Frons, the president of Disney-ABC's Daytime Television Group:
Barbara Walters said (in that way that only Barbara and Cheri Oteri can):
In her statement, Rosie said:
And on her blog, Rosie said:
Which I would take to mean, "I have sufficiently rendered that twit Elisabeth Hasselbeck harmless to the American public and my services are now required elsewhere". Well, it's the end of an era: because while Rosie certainly ruffled a lot of feathers, she did a hell of a lot for gay visibility on television. We'll miss her. Rosie
I had so much hope for Rosie when she joined The View. Slowly that began to fade as every media-driven "controversy" seemed to get to her and bring her down. She wasn't the same person she was when she joined the show.
Rosie has not handled the aftermath of her coming out well. She honestly believed that she could change minds overnight. She then realized that it was a lot tougher than it seems and slowly buckled under the constant drone of hate. I’m surprised and I’m not surprised. She is very tough and can handle herself. She is also very sensitive and leans on support. A large part of why people hate her is because she is a lesbian that is outspoken. I think Rosie only added fuel to that mixture by poorly presenting herself and not being able to control her emotions. She became too emotionally involved in every debate.
I DESPERATELY HOPE that she changes the direction of her life like (not to be smart) lose weight, manage her emotions, and get a college degree. Don’t get mad, get even. Those are ways for her to get even and at the same time improve the quality of her life.
Thank God She's Gone
I will give Rosie credit for one thing. And that was that cruise she put together for gay families.
Outside of that, she makes us all look like a bunch of baffoons everytime she opens her mouth. As far as I'm concerned she hasn't helped the "gay cause" as much as she has hurt it. She is one celeb who should have stayed in the closet.
My advice to Rosie, enjoy your family and your millions, take lots of mental meds and unless people are foolish enough to pay to see you speak in a nightclub act, do us all a favor and please KEEP YOUR BIG YAP SHUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gay and Not Ashamed
Brother Lyn, you pointed out what I already said. That when people look at one gay celebrity they believe they represent every gay person. You don't have that thought process for straight people. You don't have people saying Osama bin Laden gives a bad name to straight people.
I will not apologize for what another person says because they are gay. I will not be embarrassed of being gay because another gay person is controversial.
Maybe one day when a gay person is outrageous people will only see as that person being outrageous not all gay people.
One wonders...
Have to wonder if hasselbitch got a copy of Karl Rove's dirty tricks book while she was at the state dinner for the Queen.
Probably the same book our illustrious conservative parliamentarians have been using in Ottawa the past 16 months, that was recently revealed when the media got their hands on a copy.
QueerSighted ran an article around the time that Rosie announced she was not renewing her contact with ABC, asking if she was too loud, too fat, too dyke-y. It's bad enough to get that crap from the straight community, but must we continue to eat our own? The article generated almost 200 comments the last time I looked at it, most of it negative name-calling.
If you don't agree with her, then don't agree with her. No need for name calling. Faux news channel will do enough of that for all of us.
There are many of our community who speak out on many topics. I may not agree with all of them all the time, but, I respect their right to say it, and by reading it, may realize some point I have not considered before, but won't attack them for saying it. Just allow them to speak and move along.
People have problems with any outspoken woman most of the time. One thing for sure, she was never one of those demure milquetoast types. And I'll grant her this, when she f**ked up, she was the first to admit it when somebody pointed out the error to her.
The View has seen better days. Who can follow the conversation anyway when they all speak at once? It is more shrill than talk.
That's my two cents worth, and it's really only worth two cents if that much.
Rosie's new show and future
I agree with Evan ...
Rosie is not as bad as people made her out to be. I believe that she was made a scapegoat on more than one occasion because she is a woman. Rosie has never said she was the most educated or even informed BUT she spoke with passion and heart with a rare honesty that is sorely lacking these days on TV /media. I wish her and her family all the best in the future. I'm sure she will get a new show soon.
How "queer" is that site/blog?
