Rufus answers your questions

Last week we had the opportunity to interview Rufus Wainwright (who is currently promoting his new album, Release the Stars) and gave our readers the chance to lob in a few questions. While we only had the time to ask Rufus a few of your questions during the full interview, he was kind enough to do a follow-up Q&A on some of the other items. Here's what we learned, along with a few behind-the-scenes shots from the interview. Enjoy!

AE: What can you tell us about your role in Denys Arcand's new film? Is it a gay role?
RW: No, in fact I'm Turkish Hassan prince with a handful of beautiful women.

AE: When you finish writing your opera, whom would you like to see performing in the principal roles?
RW: A great singer from Germany named Waltraud Meier and Kiri Te Kanawa.

AE: On your new album, Release the Stars, which song sounds most nearly the way you heard it in your head when you were composing it?
RW: "SlideShow" I'm most proud of.

AE: What is your favorite Judy Garland movie and why do you think she is such a popular icon in the gay community?
RW: She is gay icon because gays have good taste! My favorite movie is umm... I'm fan of Summer Stock.

And my personal favorite…

AE: When did you start wearing clogs, and would you like to see more North American men and boys wearing them?
RW: Always – they make you taller and are easy to take off.

And if you're curiosity about Rufus still isn't satisfied, John Polly over at NewNowNext just posted a lengthy interview with him.
