Running with Disclaimers

The Turcotte family, who claim that Augusten Burroughs' loose memoir Running with Scissors defamed them via the behavior of the book's eccentric Finch family, have reached a settlement with the author and his publisher.

The book will now contain several rather odd disclaimers, including:

"I would like to thank the real-life members of the family portrayed in this book for taking me into their home and accepting me as one of their own. I recognize that their memories of the events described in this book are different than my own. They are each fine, decent, and hard-working people. The book was not intended to hurt the family. Both my publisher and I regret any unintentional harm resulting from the publishing and marketing of Running with Scissors."

Personally, I had such a boring childhood that I thought the family that Burroughs was sent to live with in the book was pretty awesome. Kind of a bummer to see that they're just as litigious and predictable as everyone else. (Disclaimer: I mean that in the nicest possible way. Please don't sue me.)
