    Worth watching

I got a chance to see this at a film festival last fall. It's pretty good. The script gets a bit contrived and convenient towards the end but overall it's well worth watching. Trevor Wright is very good in the lead but Brad Rowe, playing the older brother of Wright's best friend, is miscast. Rowe's a good actor but is too old for the part. (IMDB says he's about to turn 38.) There's supposed to be a BIT of an age difference between the two main characters but this casting was too much and took away from the credibility of the story. But I liked the style in which it was filmed, there's a good soundtrack and some nice camera work. And I always like Tina Holmes, who gets to play quite nasty in this.

    Wait wait wait

"In theaters March 2008"?  Well, that means I get to see it sometime around Christmas 2008 or spring 2009 - whenever the DVD comes out.  These films NEVER play in theaters in most areas of the country, only the big cities.  Yes, I could travel 4 hours to Chicago and probably catch this movie, but unless I'm already in the city I'm not going to drive that far for any movie.  Why can't these producers put out the DVD at the same time the films play the art houses and gay cinemas in the cities?  Would it really cut into box office so much?  And don't they make more money on DVD sales than in the couple dozen theaters?  Maybe not, I don't know.  All I know is most of the country has to wait an extra 6 months to sometimes a year to see these things.  Good to see Brad Rowe is playing gay again.  (after Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss, years ago)  His career never quite got off the ground, darn it.
