Shequida and two celebrity impersonators bring the diva to "America's Got Talent"

The lovely and talented Shequida

Okay, if we were a little looser with our editorial policies, I probably could have gone to town with a headline ripped from the Christian Siriano Trannedbook. But you know what? Transgender, crossdressing and female impersonator folk in entertainment get enough slack from the meatheads and don't really need the added snark, which is why I was pretty floored by last night's impressively trans-heavy episode of America's Got Talent. We had three - count 'em, three - gender-bending contestants make it through to the next round, and all got considerable screen time and were presented respectfully.

We already knew that Tina Turner impersonator Dorae Saunders and Britney Spears impersonator Derrick Barry had made it to this episode, but we also learned last night that NYC performer Shequida, an opera-singing diva the likes of which I guarantee you have never seen nor heard, was still in the competition in Vegas. Shequida looked and sounded phenomenal and clearly impressed the judges and contestants alike, and came off looking like a million bucks. Check her out right here:

Aside from these fabulous ladies, we also saw in a brief montage that gay two-stepping group the DC Cowboys had made it through to next week, but fan-fave singing group The Kinsey Sicks were oddly absent (unless I missed a quick shot in the massive two-hour broadcast), so I have no idea what's up with them.

Anyone else catch the show? Did you find it as trantastic as I did?
