Suck It Up & Dance! vlog (Episode 2): Gay James, "sexy bossy", and Mario Lopez

It's only the second week of our new Suck It Up & Dance vlog, and already our resident hotsteppers John and Colin are outdoing themselves. First, they lament the departure of James, discuss the difference between sexy bossy and whiny bossy, and decide that the trampy French dance wasn't their cup of tea. Then Colin plays some snippets of his interview with recently-ousted gay dancer James (who's a fan of the vlog, already) and then they do the unthinkable: they visit Mario Lopez at rehearsals for A Chorus Line.

Yes, I just said Mario Lopez.

Check it all out after the break!

    Trained Dancer Guest

I'm a trained dancer and would love to be a guest on your vlog to dish about Step It Up & Dance. I was trained in ballet, modern, jazz, tap and character and have done musical theater and modern concert dance professionally. I also have an MFA in dance and have taught dance. And, my partner grew up with Jerry Mitchell. The only problem is that I live in Seattle, although I can fly for free to NY if the schedule works out. But I'm sure you'll get tons of offers from local New York dancers.

However, I have LOTS to say about this show! :)

    great job, guys!

Mario seems really sweet. I'm surprised you didn't mention hot mess Jessica, though. She's become my favorite, along with Parole Officer Perez Michael and Oscar.

I wonder if the gay press overwhelms Mario at times

I love that Mario is so casual and cool with all the gay questions...I wonder if it ever overwhelms him though. I've seen 4 other interviews with him at this same event and each asked similar gay questions. I mean...I know he knows his base and he plays to and respects them...but I wonder if it's trying at times for even the most supportive people.

I think Mario underestimates the gay press

Say what you will about Mario, but he has hung in there for quite awhile since Saved By The Bell. You hardly ever hear anything about his other cast members. I myself have always smelled gay when it comes to Mario. To quote a famous line from Boys In The Band; "if you're over 30 and never married, you're gay!" That may not be entirely true today since people do get married later in life, but c'mon, do you REALLY think Mario is all that straight? It's funny with a lot of these entertainers when the gay rumors persist. They end up getting married. Shades of the 50's! When rumors were afoot about a certain TV star from the 80's, he married. Same with several country music stars, and a lot of other so-called straight stars.

Seems like we all have to wait about 40 years or so until they can't get a job anymore and they come out with their memoirs spilling the beans that they are officially coming out and for whatever reason, didn't at their prime.

If they don't do it, someone will after they die. Being somewhat the gay militant, it pisses me off they they aren't that forthcoming. Careers aren't that much in jeopardy by such a confession anymore. The fight for equal rights will never stop as long as these high profile people hide in that damn closet! Someone needs to remind them that closets are ONLY for clothes. lol...

    Don't Do This

Sorry, I don't like it when an actor is gay-friendly and cool and takes gay roles...which leads to gay people concluding he's gay. Yes, I do think Mario is straight. Read my books! Explore "Brent's Brain" at http://www.brenthartinger.com

Uh Mario is a notorious womanizer

and has been married - to Ali Landry - who had the marriage annulled because he couldn't stay faithful to her. And as for him not being married now - come on - if you were heterosexual and that freakin' hot and had women throwing themselves at you it's not surprising you'd be in no hurry to get tied down. In fact, I'd be more inclined to think he might be gay if he WERE married. The guy is straight as they come, which might account for his ease with the gay press.

    All Press...

Did it ever occur to you that some of these so-called womanizers do that to steer any chatter of their gayness away? I disagree that Mario is ALL that hot, not even freakin' hot. Just because he may have been photographed with all these pathetic female celebrity freak-a-zoids hangin' on to him, doesn't exactly make him all that straight. On a scale of Straightness, I would say he registers about 30 on a scale of 1 to 100.

Unless you have some accredited college degree in in your summation that he is indeed "straight as they come," I'm waiting on National Enquirer to blow (excuse that) his ruse. No big deal on that story either.

    Bossy Cody and the gays...

At this moment I don't care if any of the guys win the prize on the show. Sure, Cody is attractive...but he's actually just as good as the rest of the guys. He stands out because he does exactly what they tell him to do (tumbles). When they had to dance for Mel they told him to dance that way...and that stupid "Pimps up, Hos down" drama dance was shady because the other gusy became wallflowers and faded into the background while he planned the whole thing.

And the gays on that show...ugh, the gays on that show...

Is the grand prize gonna be a spot in Madonna: Truth or Dare II? They'd fit right in. They went out of their way to find the stereotypes when they cast these "girlfriends". I recently met two dancers who have done work on Mamma Mia...they are nothing like those guys. I hope if this show goes in to a second season they find some guys who will break down stereotypes...not play to them.

You can already see the way

You can already see the way this show is shaking out -- the "real" men vs. the guys who seriously need to "butch it up." Okay, I understand the rationale, but the show cast these dancers. If they thought they didn't come across as "manly" enough for mainstream shows, then why did they put them on? For the drama? To play to gay viewers? If so, then telling them they are too queeny to their faces isn't exactly going to endear them to that demographic!

    Love you guys!

I don't really watch the show, but love your blog! Isn't Mario Lopez just about the sweetest thing you've ever seen? So nice and soft spoken. If those dimples were any deeper I'd just die. (John, you lucky dog, understandably you looked like you were just about to burst out of your pants while you were interviewing him.)

    Mario's Move...

...by doing a movie w/ Melissa Joan Heart and handcuffed/tied up for a good part of it might suggest he is more kinky than we all thought...?~!
