Suggestions for AFA-friendly cards to replace Hallmark's gay wedding greetings

You may remember that last week we reported that Hallmark recently unveiled a line of greeting cards designed specifically for same-sex couples tying the knot, which followed up on their Coming Out cards from last year for greetings directed specifically at gay folk.

Of course, the right-wingers aren't about to let anyone else be happy, even if that happiness is worth a mere $1.50 and comes on recycled paper. Both the AFA (The American Family Association) (via their FPN affiliate) and the CWA (Concerned Women for America) are urging bigots as zealous, selfish and narrowminded as themselves to let Hallmark know how unhappy they are with the well-wishing giant's acknowledgment that gay people exist, let alone deserve good tidings.

But that's not all! We've also learned that the conservative groups, ever the over-achievers, have even gone so far as to propose several new cards that adhere to their conservative philosophy to replace the gay wedding cards.

Take a look at tell us what you think...

UPDATE: I'm adding a second disclaimer here, as apparently these mock-ups are hitting so terrifyingly close-to-home that some folks are taking them seriously. These cards are 100% parody meant to be an entertaining way to skewer some of the "values" that these conservative organizations hold dear. No worries, you will not be getting any of these in the mail any time soon.

These are ACTUAL cards?

These are ACTUAL cards? You've got to be kidding me! Who on earth who even buy these?!? Are you sure you're not pulling our legs Brian and just made them yourself?

Use the enemy's weapons against them

As Jordan posted earlier, I encourage all AE users to make use of the AFA's petition tool to send a warm e-kudos to Hallmark's president in light of the AFA's most recent bullsh*t. Here is the link: http://www.afa.net/Petitions/Issuedetail.asp?id=329

I believe mine looked a little something like this, basically an identical version of their pre-set hate message but twisted into positive words :)

Dear Chairman Hall:

I am pleasantly surprised that Hallmark is promoting a perfectly healthy lifestyle which is legal in 2 states and all of Canada. There was a time Hallmark told us to send the very best. Pleased to see you have taken a giant step forward. Keep up the good work! American Greeting Cards, your competitor, will be missing out on some of my business.

I always wonder, though, if

I always wonder, though, if those just get counted among the AFA's negative letters. I guess I imagine that they don't get read closely enough to discern that some are positive spins. Maybe they do, though.

I've always wondered where "our" petition tools are. People can so easily generate letters through the nice AFA links, but whenever I want to counteract that, then I either have to use their petition tool, or I have to find an address and compose my own letter. It would be nice to have an easy alternative when things like this come up. Does anyone know of one (or is anyone gonna start one)?

Also, could we have a link to Hallmark or contact information so that we can express support directly?

LOL at the cards

I have no idea if there's a website to generate letters out there already, but you can always give Mr. Hall a call and thank him! :)

Gotta Question

Not to take the focus off the AFA, but any suggestions on how to deal with this blogger, who is associated with an otherwise reputable Internet retailer?   I sent a complaint to the retailer, but no action .  .  .

Here's the gay-bashing blog (don't miss some of the follow-up comments).

Pardon the interruption.

Couldn't "Beat the

Couldn't "Beat the queer outta their sons" be considered an incitement to violence?

How incredibly sad...

...that so many people couldn't figure out that the cards Brian posted were PARODIES. Unless you're all pretending to be serious, as a prank.

Has anyone actually seen the cards Hallmark designed for gay couples that are so upsetting to the AFA? Not one of them is the least bit offensive, and none of them splash the word "GAY" on the outside. There's no way a child could pick up on the meaning of them unless an adult explained it to them. So you wouldn't have to "protect" your kids from them as you walk through the card aisle.
