Memorial Day weekend: Sun, burgers, gay pride in Romania and fingers crossed for a Prop 8 overturn

Gay Pride in Bucharest (Pic: GETTY)

Well hello, strangers! Nice to see you again - see you got a little sun over the long weekend.

Alright, enough with the pleasantries, we have worrying to do! Yes, today the California Supreme Court will announce its ruling on the potential overturn of Proposition 8, the initiative that made same-sex marriage illegal in the state and left 18,000 gay couples wondering if they had to return all the food processors and woks they'd received as wedding gifts.

Fingers crossed, folks.

In the meantime, how did you spend your weekend? As you can see in the picture above, 300 enterprising gay folks and supporters organized a gay pride parade in Bucharest, Romania, and in our backyard a straight friend brought us a Memorial Day cake decorated with a rainbow flag (thanks, Melissa!). And of course it's hard to memorialize our servicemen and women without acknowledging the looming specter of DATD wheezing its death-rattle over our heads ... but when you find yourself in a karaoke bar in the middle of the night with a bunch of adorably drunk sailors from Halifax who let you wear their hats, you do your best.

Any gay goings-on in your neck of the woods?

What, no pictures?

What, you get to play around with drunken sailors, and we don't get any pictures?  I'm very disappointed in you, Brian.  At least Joe.My.God shared pictures of sailors from Fleet Week!

Funny you should ask...

There were pictures taken, but we realized later that they were taken on one of the sailor's cameras, not one of ours. Nova Scotia's in for a treat!

oh man...

I am pretty nervous about the prop 8 decision...

I know there are gatherings in cities to either celebrate or not about the final decision...might go to the one here in D.C...
