News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

To Make a Long Story Short ... putting the "gay" in "reggae", J.P. coaches ball, and more

  • A gay version of The Economist? Let's hope it's on pink paper! Wait -- that's the Financial Times...
  • Ask Gay Man's gay man nabs a development deal with NBC/Universal (the parent company of Bravo). We'll believe it when we see it -- remember when Ross the Intern had his own deal? And where is he now? That's right: being weighed on a giant scale on national television. (Ross, we love you. We really do. You were robbed.)
  • Here's some great news: homophobic reggae artist Beenie Man (and others) sign the Reggae Compassionate Act: a drive to "respect and uphold the rights of all individuals to live without violence due to their religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or gender". Considering a few years ago his lyrics encouraged people to kill homosexuals, this is a step in the right direction -- go Peter Tatchell!
  • Out gay model and Survivor J.P. Calderon talks to Outsports about coming out and coaching ladies' volleyball. Not that there's any connection between the two.
  • High schools in Virginia and Sleepy Hollow have plays with gay content booted off campus by administrators. In both cases the kids performed their shows (one of which was The Laramie Project) uncensored off school grounds (Project was also staged, with the profanity removed, at the school). That's the spirit!

This and That

JP is so hot.

Good for the Virginia company to continue the show.

I love this quote from William Sledd aka Ask a Gay Man: "Everything is falling into place. Everyone wants a little bit of William. The next couple months are going to be big. I can’t tell whether this is the beginning of the 15 minutes or the end, and I am just waiting to find out."

Isn't he humble?  Really I'm happy for him but like usual gay men can't seem to lay off insulting other gay men.  Check out the link Brian gave to see for yourself.

Peter Tatchell?

Doesn't he support pedophilia?

I've seen a lot of stuff from the guy's site, and, imo, it's pretty disturbing. http://www.petertatchell.net/age%20of%20consent/age%20of%20consent%20index.htm

Queerty comments

Man! We do love to eat our own do we not? I read the article on Queerty, and then the comments below it. Me-frigging-ow!

I would have expected that type of commentary on that other blog site (whose author desperately needs to get acquainted with soap and water from what I saw of it in Toronto recently).

The top post on my blog is something that is in it's second year, via Kelly Stern (link in the article on my blog), where we are celebrating the diversity and pride that are the gay and lesbian community globally.

I am genuinely happy for Mr. Sledd, and I hope he is wildly successful and rakes in the bucks by the truckload! Have to grab the brass ring when you get your chance. How many times have I sat on my hands and kicked myself in the ass for it later?

Everyone's got the right to voice their own opinion, but just once, I would like to see someone be happy at the success of one of the members of our community!

We're not all butch, not all flamboyant, not all in fashion, etc. We are as diverse as the colours of the rainbow. We come from every spectrum out there. Wouldn't it be dull if we were all carbon copies of each other, and robotically spoke the same thing like a marching band of sycophants.

Geeze!
