Tonight's Work Out to deal with Doug Blasdell's death

A story has hit the wires reporting that tonight's episode of Work Out will deal with the death of Doug Blasdell, one of Sky Sport's openly gay trainers. Fans of the show and of Doug have been wondering how his untimely death might be dealt with by the second season of Bravo's reality show, and despite the touching dedication to Blasdell that starts each episode, the show and Bravo have been largely silent on the issue.

But folks who tuned in last week saw that in the preview for tonight's episode, gym owner/ego wrangler Jackie Warner breaks the news to the team that Doug has been hospitalized unexpectedly.

Warner notes in the interview that Doug's death was something that the otherwise frothy reality show didn't quite know how to deal with:

"The first thing that crossed my mind was how do we deal with Doug's death ... I didn't want to exploit it, but we had to address it. This was a reality that we had to deal with and we're still dealing with it. But this is a reality show. He couldn't just disappear."

The story suggests that tonight's episode might cover the news of Doug's hospitalization and induced coma through his sad passing. Granted, that was only two months, but it would be a lot to pack into one episode of a show whose stock in trade is pumped muscles and hissyfits, not serious topics like the death of a colleague. We'll have to watch to find out.
