New "Torchwood: Children of Earth" goodies

The BBC has released a press kit for the upcoming Torchwood Series Three, and in it are some goodies about everyone's favorite gay/omnisexual alien-fighting couple, Captain Jack and Ianto Jones. Here's what gay series creator Russell T Davies has to share about the fellas:

The relationship between Captain Jack and Ianto has developed. Was that something you'd be planning for a while?

"Not planning, as such, it just grew naturally out of the scripts and performances from John and Gareth. And it's such a rich area – the sheer will-they-or-won't-they tension of two men getting closer.

"But, again, you can come to Torchwood as a new viewer and follow their relationship from the start – you won't get lost! And it's honestly a pleasure to write for two such fine actors – they make the whole process a delight."

Local fave Gareth David-Lloyd, who plays Ianto, adds: ""It was nice to film those elements of the series. As it panned out across previous series, the relationship between Jack and Ianto has been quite organic. So it was nice that we get to the stage in series three where they are going through all the usual couple difficulties. I think the way it's been done is extremely real.""

Additionally, John Barrowman says that Children of Earth is "one of the darker Torchwood storylines" (yay!) and from the previews, which are filled with creepy, alien-controlled children, I don't doubt it.

If you haven't yet seen the trailer that was released a few weeks back, I've reposted it below. July can't come fast enough!

Uh-oh.

Those song titles are really ominous.

Ianto Jones; The Ballad of Ianto Jones; Requiem for the Fallen; He Was a Good Man...

Damn, those comments about Ianto possibly dying have made me super paranoid and a little depressed.

Does anyone has the last pic on a bigger resolution?

My Thoughts Exactly

Can we get that in higher resolution?  It's hot.

I'm excited for Series 3.  But I'm worried about Ianto (my favorite character).

love_jackianto's picture

Now if only we knew when it's going to be on.

That looks great. The only thing I'm worried about is that their putting in all this Jack/Ianto stuff so people will feel bad when Ianto dies (I haven't read any spoilers, it's just a feeling I have).

The Same Feeling...

It's airing in the United States starting July 20th and will be released on DVD on July 28th.

I'm worried about Ianto too, as I've had the same feeling, for months now.  If he does die, it won't be a deal breaker for me, but it will suck, because he's been my favorite character on the show since the first episode back in October 2006.

If they kill Ianto...

...without also killing that miserable cow Gwen then it would be a deal breaker for me. So let's hope it doesn't happen.

It wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't so badly written

I doubt they'll kill Gwen, because she's the 'heart of the team' and RTD's favourite character. Too bad the writers keep saying she's the 'heart of the team', but we hardly get to see her supposed compassion. Don't get me started on all the times in Series Two that Gwen made the SAME mistakes she did in Series One, just so they could move the plot along.

No, it would stink like old time movies.

You know, killing off the gay lover to get him out of the way so that the leading man can finally be with the woman he would have otherwise been with?  Very old school, and that's exactly what it would feel like if they killed off Ianto.

it would stink like old time movies... priceless.

Old school and very cliched; if I wanted to see the leading man and the leading women get together I would watch pretty much EVERY OTHER t.v. show. The fact that I've never been able to see any sexual chemistry between Jack and Gwen (they do have nice platonic chemistry) doesn't help.

Deal breaker

If he dies is total deal breaker for me. He was the reason I kept watching after the first episode.

Me too. Ianto's my favourite character on the show (next to Tosh), so I've been waiting since series 1 for him to die; most of my favourite characters have a habit of ending up died.

Well, if you look at that promo picture above, Jack and Gwen are both looking forward (into the future), but Ianto is looking down at the ground. They might be trying to tell us something, plus my favourite t.v. characters tend to end up dead.

season 2 was a bit hit and miss for me.A few episodes were just plain awful, while some others(like the first few & last few) were excellent.

Two things happened.

I got goosebumps & I got the feeling a movie is in the works after watching that trailer.

The part with Gwen recording the "End of the World"... was...a spectacular scene. I'm excited.

I was actually thinking about it

Ever since I learned that *Eve Myles is pregnant* and what it meant for a new season of Torchwood,is she not coming back?

http://www.whatsontv.co.uk/drama/torchwood/news/torchwood-star-eve-myles-is-pregnant/5743

It should be around five months at this time.

s4

IF BBC decided to make a 4th series, it wouldn't start filming before next year. Eve would have plenty of time to have her baby and get back in form by then.

that pic

When I first saw that pic last Friday my first reaction was: DOOM! because I couldn't help linking it with rumors that had been around for months now

Then reading the ST tracklist was: DOOM again. Look at the titles!

I'd like to be excited about s3 but I'm just getting sad about it all.

Maybe it's true that what BBCA wants is make noise with COE, then start the American Torchwood with James Marsters. I don't care about TW without its welshness and its Ianto, and I care even less about John Hart.

Personally, I think the

Personally, I think the whole Cardiff and Rift thing has been done to death. By Season 2 it was already beating a dead horse. And although I prefer Captain Jack with Captain John, I like Ianto 1000% more than the insufferable Gwen. If they can't get Martha back and have to have a female -- GET A DECENT ONE! Someone strong and with actual skills. Someone like Tosh without all the baggage they dumped on her. And don't kill Ianto. HE is the actual "humanizing" character on the show, not Gwen. He's the one people relate to.

I Don't Think So

It would be very unwise of the writers to kill off another beloved character after the way S2 ended.  Far better to rebuild the team as a result of overcoming this crisis rather than to whittle the team down even more.  This is Torchwood, not 24.
